Wrestling: Shorewood out of conference victory over Mariner High School

Shorewood's wrestlers began their dual meet season on Tuesday with an out of conference victory over Mariner High School.

After Mariner won the first match the Thunderbirds responded with 18 straight team points punctuated by a pin from heavyweight Taejin Thongdee.

The teams split the next four matches as Shorewood maintained a 14 point lead.

At 138 pounds T-bird freshman Isaac Van Horn stepped out for his first varsity match and pinned his opponent in the first period. He was followed by senior Curt Tanaka at 145 pounds.

Tanaka had the fastest pin of the night, needing only 23 seconds for the pin as Shorewood stretched their lead before holding on for a 46-26 win.

Shorewood wrestles next at home on Thursday, December 12, 2019 against Jackson and Cascade.
