Flags at Half-Staff for Victims of Political Violence
Saturday, September 13, 2025
From Gov. Bob Ferguson
On September 8, 2025, I directed that Washington state and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, September 11, 2025, for national Patriot Day, the annual memorial to the victims of the 2001 tragedy.
Pursuant to the attached Presidential Proclamation, and consistent with state policy, I hereby extend that directive in memory of Charles Kirk.
Additionally, as governor, I am also directing that the flags be lowered in memory of all victims of political violence, including Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, who were assassinated June 14, 2025, as well as Minnesota Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who were seriously injured in an attempted assassination the same day.
Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
Other government entities, individuals and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition.

If Governor Ferguson is truly interested in honoring all recent victims of political violence, he should go beyond Charlie Kirk and the Minnesota legislators assassinated 6/14/25 to include Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, two Israeli Embassy workers assassinated in DC on 5/21/25 by a Free Palestine activist.
Bob Ferguson's outrage at political violence always arrives filtered through a political lens. Ask yourself why.
Thank you Governor Ferguson
Thanks for honoring "all victims of political violence" sir.
How far back should we go? It’s never-ending political violence in the USA.
That sounds like a question for the governor, who couldn't bring himself to honor Charlie Kirk without a caveat.
Bob Ferguson has stood mute on the violence perpetrated by his supporters during his entire 13 year career holding statewide office. Remember Marshawn Lynch saying "I'm just here so I won't get fined."? That's the subtext of this flag proclamation. Gov. Inslee was also silent on Washington's violent leftists, famously claiming during a press conference that he wasn't aware of the CHOP takeover while it was in progress.
While no ideology has a monopoly on political violence, in the PNW it's the far left who are overwhelmingly responsible. We can expect it to get worse if a dead body has to lie on the ground before the governor will issue even a perfunctory condemnation.
