Birds are my usual photographic subject, but darling little mammals are nothing to shake a stick at! (If that phrase even works here:)

how do you keep the rats away? I would like to feed birds and give peanuts to squirrels and bluejays but I CANT STAND RATS
Go to Wild Birds unlimited and buy suet with hot pepper. The birds can't taste it but the rats avoid it. I've been advised that feeding animals peanuts creates a life-threatening risk for humans with peanut allergies. The birds drop peanuts all over the surrounding area and some people really are that vulnerable.
