It's a good thing that Public Health shut down McDonalds for operating with a busted water heater. We can't have them competing against the dozens of unpermitted sidewalk food vendors who've been operating with impunity for months.

The unpermitted sidewalk vendors get shut down regularly. There have just been a couple in Shoreline.

You’re disgusting if you think a large, chain establishment like McDonalds should be allowed to operate without hot water because some illegal sidewalk vendors do so.

There are 4 within a few miles of Thrashers Corner. The health dept says they cannot shut them down without police representative present. That is just crazy to me. They conveniently locate in unincorporated ateas.

The point is not that McDonalds should have been allowed to continue operating without hot water.

The point is that it takes Public Health one day to enforce the law against McDonalds, while it takes months for them to enforce the same law against unpermitted food trucks. I firmly believe that this disparity is due to bias from our local governmental agencies against enforcing the law upon certain favored demographic groups. As the violators are high on the intersectional grievance pyramid, conversations were held about whether the health codes should be enforced upon these food trucks at all, before someone more senior said they had to be.

There's no other good explanation for how these trucks openly flouted the law for months on end before anything was done about them.

I think the actual point is that a single McDonald's can potentially be a health hazard to hundreds of people in a single day, especially since most people that go to one have a reasonable expectation of cleanliness from this type of establishment. Of course the health department is going to shut them down in one day.

The unlicenced food vendors you think are such a menace are only a potential hazard to the couple dozen people that dare eat at them a day, mostly serving the "certain demographic groups" they belong to. Believe me, the customers of these entrepreneurs also have their own reasonable expectations of what they're paying for.

The only grievance pyramid here is yours, where people trying to scrape out a living for themselves seem to be at the top.

Operating without hot water is an imminent health hazard and a major food safety concern. If you can’t properly wash your hands you shouldn’t be preparing food.

Please confirm what the “ certain favored demographic groups” are?

Things happen but what's really terrible, was the owner failed to pay those employees who were scheduled for the two days they were closed.

What are you talking about? Did you even read to comprehend the original comment?

What's really entertaining is how upset people are about the food vendors. If ya don't want to take the risk then don't eat there. I mean it's set up on the side of the road, common sense says there is an implied risk. Also the pop ups are delicious and I fully support them! McDonald's however gives you the sense that they are following all the codes therefore I'd expect they'd have access to something as basic as hot water, I'm glad they got it taken care of. People just need to calm down lol

Wow, where to begin?

"The unlicenced food vendors you think are such a menace are only a potential hazard to the couple dozen people that dare eat at them a day, mostly serving the 'certain demographic groups' they belong to."

Untrue, and untrue.  Go out after dark and you can see for yourself the long lines that gather for these vendors.  I've seen a dozen people waiting in line, with customers from every walk of life.  They're not serving just a handful of people, and it's not a private barbecue.  This is public foodservice.  I'm sure it's extremely delicious, which is why they do so well!

I feel like we need to establish a few facts here.  Foodborne illness pathogens do not care if someone is trying to scrape out a living.  They don't care if the business is a multinational corporation, or an undocumented proprietor from Jalisco.  They don't care whether your food contributes to hypertension and heart disease, or it's chock full of vegetables.

Pathogens DO care about refrigeration, hand washing, and thorough cooking.  While the presence of a permit doesn't make a food vendor safe, lack of refrigeration and lack of hot soapy hand washes DO make a vendor unsafe.

If they are serving food to the public for profit, then they MUST follow the rules.
This attitude of "let the largely immigrant customers demand the level of hygiene that they wish, rules be damned" is horrifying.

It makes me shake my head to see people admitting that they believe laws should be enforced unequally based upon the national origin of the offender.  It explains a lot about our broken national politics.  A law that applies to John has to apply equally to Juan.  This is really basic stuff, people...14th Amendment, E Pluribus Unum. Yikes!

This is recreational outrage coupled with get off my lawn. I agree, don't eat there if you have a problem with a street vendors. And if you never eat there, how is it your business, again?
Water tanks break all the time. Businesses are temporarily closed all the time. Permit violations and a broken water tank are mutually exclusive. Permitless is clearly trying to skirt the system. Hot waterless is simply trying to fix a water tank.

I don't see how they are related other than the fact that they make food for people.

Seriously. One is a billion dollar corporation that is expected to hold basic standards, therefore trusted by the general public, serving hundreds to thousands in a day.

If that guy doesn't think food trucks are sanitary, he can simply continue not eating at them and pipe down in this unrelated news article comment section lol
