"I was walking this morning down near Lake Washington (on NE 155th St, in LFP) and as I looked across the lake, it was as if there were 3 suns - in the sky, under the clouds, and on the lake. So I snapped this pic.

Fireworks hangover on July 5th

Sunrise on July 5 from Lake Forest Park looking east shows the smoky sky. 

All the metrics that measure air quality showed a dramatic spike during 4th of July fireworks shows and clearly there was a hangover into the next morning's sunrise.

It might have been helped by lingering haze from Canadian wildfires in the upper layers of air..

Whatever the source it made for interesting views and it cleared during the day.

Stunning Cascade sunrise

There are a lot of cameras trained on the Olympics - and a lot of residents with views. There are not so many good views to the east and the Cascades. You have to be on the North City ridge or have a rooftop view to really see the Cascades.

Fortunately, one of our regular reporters has such a view and sent in this gorgeous shot of sunrise on the Cascades.

Sunrise and smoke

Photographer David Walton sent this beautiful photo of Monday's sunrise and explained that:

This morning I was starting my bike ride and didn’t even make it out of the neighborhood when I saw this fantastic sunrise, so I had to stop and photo it. In part it was beautiful due to all the junk in the air, I suppose a silver lining. Apparently it was smoke from forest fires. I say that because later in the day, the smell of smoke overtook the neighborhood.

You can see the solid layer high in the air. From comments made by other people, smoke made it to ground level on the Lake Washington side of the area. During the recent wildfire smoke Lake Forest Park made the national news for having the highest particulate level in the state.

It is pretty, though.

I like fog. It's like a fuzzy blanket and it looks beautiful in the trees. However the last few days have been too much of a good thing so I was happy to see the "sun window" on Monday.

A few days back we had a clear morning with a beautiful sunrise over the Cascades and Mike Remarcke took this dramatic photo.

Photo: The day started with wildfire haze

We started the day Friday with smokey skies obscuring the Cascades. The smoke persisted during the day and into the evening.

When the sun looks like this, you know there's something in the air - smoke, fog, smog, haze,etc. 

The thick layer of smoke was noticeable but not unbearable for short exposures, except for those with impaired breathing.

The irony is that the unhealthy air protected us from the high temperatures predicted for today.

By sunset, the haze obscured the Olympics but left the ferry in view and blazed a fiery path across the water.
