Meridian Park PTSA Art Showcase

Wednesday, June 10, 2026

The cafeteria became a vibrant space full of self-portraits and dog/cat art

Writer: Kristina Dydychkina
Editor: Angelina Dydychkina

On May 13, 2026 the Meridian Park PTSA and Art Docents put on a beautiful art showcase. Every student's art was in it, along with all the R-A-T t-shirt design entries.

There were stations where you could make bracelets, origami and other fun crafts. You also got to see the self-portraits and the pop art dogs the students drew in art docent. There was also a room with the sculptures that students made in Art Docent.

A third room had a screen that played videos of kids doing other talents like singing and stop motion animation.

The sculpture room was full of amazing “found” sculptures.
Students gave new life to what might have been thrown away.

The students who sang showed some amazing talents. A kindergartner who sang one beautiful Vietnamese song and one Chinese song deserves a special shout out! We really liked his confidence when he sang those songs.

The Stop Motion animation club showcased their work. We also really liked the “Does AI Belong?” stop motion animation and the video about dolls escaping.

There was also a delicious and fancy snack station with a string quartet playing nearby. People could look at the art and meet artists making their work. It was literally a feast for all the senses.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped prepare the event, set up and clean up all the stations. Meridian Park is lucky to have such an awesome art docent program that helped students make such cool and unique art.

We also want to give a shout out to all the Cheetahs whose every single art piece helped make the PTSA Art Showcase a night to be remembered.

Meridian Park Elementary is located at 17077 Meridian Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133

Shoreline PTA Council honors volunteers

Monday, May 18, 2026

Shoreline PTA Council 6.12 recently had the pleasure of honoring some amazing volunteers within our PTA Council.

These three individuals have dedicated their time and energy far beyond what is expected, and their care and compassion for our Shoreline and LFP students, families, PTAs and communities are truly remarkable - we are so grateful for everything they do!

Below are our Award Winners, along with brief notes on their nominations.

Courtney Shuey (center) was awarded the Golden Acorn

Golden Acorn - Courtney Shuey, PTA Council President

Courtney has taken on the President role with so much heart, always showing compassion and a genuine effort to build connections within our council and local PTA boards. Whenever someone needs help, Courtney is the first to step in and offer her support. She consistently reaches out to others for advice and feedback and is always looking for solutions. Additionally, she was a lead coordinator for the levy events, which were instrumental in helping our community understand both the logistics of each levy and the importance of supporting our schools. Courtney pours her heart into this role and everything she does for us, and often, we have to remind her to take care of herself, too. Her dedication and empathy are truly inspiring!

Abby Brus (center) was awarded the Golden Acorn

Golden Acorn - Abby Brus, PTA Council Family Services

Abby stepped in to lead this year's Holiday Baskets, which faced many uncertainties with funding and partners. Her deep passion and commitment enabled us to serve many incredible Shoreline and LFP families. Those of us who attended the event saw how inspiring she was in action. She ensured every part of the event had the support it needed. Abby really did a fantastic job with this big event and all its unique challenges! Plus, Abby is a vital support for the Works, and without her commitment and care, we wouldn't be able to provide essential resources to students and families in Shoreline and LFP!

Sarah Press was named the PTA Council Outstanding Advocate

Outstanding Advocate - Sarah Press, PTA Council Advocacy

Sarah has taken on this important advocacy role this year and has really stepped up. She’s been fantastic at keeping the Action Network going, providing essential information and easy action items for families in Shoreline and LFP. Keeping up with legislative sessions and committee testimonies can be tough, but Sarah has a knack for simplifying it, making it more understandable for families. This is especially crucial right now, as many families are unsure about how to get involved. She’s also always looking for ways to help families learn about the legislative and voting process and engage with candidates. We’re really fortunate to have her dedication in our community!

Congratulations and a heartfelt thank you to all!

Shoreline PTA Legislative report

Wednesday, March 18, 2026

Washington State PTA operates on two major principles:
  1. Every child - one voice
  2. It is the paramount duty of the state to make ample provision for the education of all children residing within its borders, without distinction or preference on account of race, color, caste, or sex.
The first is from National PTA and applies to all units in the U.S. The second is in the Washington state constitution.

Shoreline PTA report on the recently completed legislative session in Washington state

The 2026 legislative session ended March 12, 2026. Our LD1 and LD32 legislators deserve genuine thanks for important wins — and an honest look at what still needs to happen for Shoreline's students.

What went right:
  • School districts were exempted from last year's unintended services tax (ESSB 5814), effective July 1, 2026 — real and meaningful relief
What fell short:
  • The final budget cut more than $80 million from K-12 statewide — while passing a tax that won't collect until 2029
  • Transition to Kindergarten cut 33%; bus depreciation extended; Local Effort Assistance cut; Running Start reduced
  • Persistent gaps in MSOC (Materials, Supplies, & Operating Costs), Special Education, and Transportation remain unfilled
  • ESSB 6346 (Millionaire's tax) revenue is not legally dedicated to K-12 — intent language is nonbinding
Shoreline voters just passed two levies in six months to cover what the state won't fund. Not every community can do that. Our students can't wait until 2029.

Last Saturday, December 13, 2025 the Shoreline PTA Council had the privilege of partnering with the Dale Turner Family YMCA, the Shoreline Fire Department, Hopelink, and the City of Shoreline City Hall to host the 2025 Holiday Baskets event.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the incredible volunteers, generous individuals, and community donors.

With your support, we served 488 families within the Shoreline School district, reaching over 2,000 family members!

Each family received gifts and/or gift cards for students, grocery gift cards, and the opportunity to shop at Hopelink’s mobile market for fresh and shelf-stable food.

Participating in this event each year allows us to serve our community and spread joy to families in our district—an experience we truly cherish.

We can't close out this year's event without expressing our deepest appreciation to our own Family Services Chair, Abigail Brus, and her dedicated team. Abby's immense commitment and effort in organizing this event are deeply appreciated, and we are truly grateful!

Wishing you all the happiest of holidays and a safe winter break! ❤️

Marty Byrne with her Spree wreath

Marty Byrne is an ardent Shorecrest supporter. She was very disappointed when the Class of 2027 wreath sale sold out before she could get there.

But another Shorecrest class project saved the day, because she found a beautiful wreath at the Shorecrest PTA Class of 2026 Spree Trees sale on Friday.

Monday, October 27, 2025

After a last minute, successful scramble for canopies and tarps everything was lined up for the kids at the Echo Lake Elementary PTA Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

Colorful umbrellas fit the whole theme.

Parents stationed at the trunks made the most of the opportunity.

Not sure who was having the most fun!

The kids were busy trying to decide which color, which candy, which balloon they should add to their stash.

A bevy of princesses

The crowd was very diverse!

Winter coat drive begins at The Works

Monday, September 22, 2025

It's time to start collecting warm coats! Last year, The Works was able to provide *722* new and used coats to students, all thanks to your donations!

The Works is a free student clothing room that provides high quality, clean, gently used children’s and teen clothing and self-care items to Shoreline School District children. Shoreline families can bring their children to “shop” for gently used, stylish clothing.

You can bring new or gently used, clean coats to The Works:
  • every Wednesday night between 6:30-8pm,
  • or leave donations outside the doors to the Transition Program on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 8:30am - 2pm (located in the building directly behind the Spartan Recreation Center),
  • or contact your school's PTA to ask where they are collecting donations!
  • The Works is located on the north side of the Shoreline Center at 18560 1st Ave NE, Shoreline, WA 98155! Enter the north parking lot off of 1st Avenue NE (just south of the tennis/pickleball courts). Once in the parking lot, drive straight until you have to turn right. Then as you continue straight ahead, past the maintenance building, you'll see our blue door and the sign for The Works.
