Celebrate Summer Solstice with Labyrinths on the Beach June 21, 2026

Monday, June 8, 2026

Join a playful outdoor event celebrating the longest day of the year with an ancient practice to reflect and center.

Gathering Ground offers their seventh annual Summer Solstice Labyrinth Walk on Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 7:00 - 9:10pm at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park, 2021 NW 190th St, Shoreline, 98177.

This family-friendly event features multiple labyrinths to walk, a station for take-home finger labyrinth making, a bonfire, song circle, and options to join in contemplative activities and shared reflection.

The event is open-house style: drop in when it works for you and participate how you would like. Donation-based, contributions welcomed. See event website for more details, accessibility information, and any updates.

Labyrinths are a simple reflection form that allows the walker to journey inward to their truth, then outward into the world.
They are a powerful tool to move through challenges and find intention, clarity, and joy. In a challenging world, let's connect with ourselves, with community, and with the natural world, and engage in creativity, play, and contemplation.

This event is offered by Gathering Ground. Gathering Ground provides community for people to make and share meaning, through observing earth holidays, deep sharing and listening, and growing together in relationship with the world around us.

This event is produced in partnership with the Western Washington Labyrinth Network.

For more information visit the event website or email GatherinGround.Seattle@gmail.com.

"Social Justice Sundays" sign-waving honors fathers, principles in June

Thursday, May 28, 2026

"We the People means everyone"
Pride, Juneteenth - "Social Justice Sundays" sign-waving honors fathers, principles in June

By Pamela Mieth

In June we honor and celebrate some of the important people in our lives (fathers/father figures) and essential principles we live by (racial equality, human and civil rights).

With Juneteenth (6/19), Father's Day (6/21) and Pride Month all coming up, we can send a message loud and clear:

  • We are in this together.
  • We will stand up for each other.
  • Doing the right thing matters.
One good way to do that is by joining with others at one of four "Social Justice Sundays" sign-wavings in June (7, 14, 21, and 28) organized by Everyday Activists (@everydayshoreline.bsky.social) at the intersection of Aurora Avenue North and N 205th St at the Shoreline-Edmonds line, 1-2pm.

Come to one or all four, bring a sign or just yourself (some will be available to borrow), but make your voice heard.

Non-perishable food and toiletry items will also be collected for donation to a local organization helping those in need.

(Also, there is still one more sign-waving scheduled in May for this Sunday, 5/31, same time and location.)

Happy Lunar New Year - the Year of the Horse

Lunar New Year traditions focus on family reunion, good fortune, and warding off evil, featuring red decorations, firecrackers, lion/dragon dances, ancestor offerings, and reunion dinners with symbolic foods, plus giving red envelopes (hongbao) filled with money, all culminating in the Lantern Festival.

Key rituals involve thorough house cleaning before the New Year to sweep away bad luck, followed by avoiding cleaning for the first few days to keep good fortune in.

Annual Tribute to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. January 19, 2026 in Edmonds

Saturday, January 10, 2026

Donnie Griffin - LEVL Founder & President at the 2025 event

Two of the Northwest’s celebrated community choirs will be featured at the Lift Every Voice Legacy’s 8th Annual Tribute to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - Inspiring a Beloved Community in Song, Artistic Expression and Dance for Children and Families on January 19, 2026 from 9:30am to 12pm, at Edmonds Waterfront Center 220 Railroad Ave Box 717, Edmonds, WA 98020

The Sound of the Northwest and the Northwest Girlchoir will perform on stage along with Red Eagle Soaring, Mount Vernon High School Mariachi & Folklorico team, Shorecrest Hip Hop, and Subhash with Dubai Nepalese Group.

Long-time Edmonds resident Jeanne Misha Martinez Carter, a published writer, photographer, theatrical performer, martial arts instructor, and a “visionary of peace “advocate, will give a spoken word presentation.

Shorecrest Hip Hop performs at the 2025 event

The free morning event is produced in partnership with the Edmonds Waterfront Center and with major funding from the Hazel Miller Foundation.

“Our theme this year, 'Love Demands Justice,' is inspired by Rev. Dr. King’s 1967 speech, 'Where Do We Go from Here,” said Donnie Griffin, founder and president of Lift Every Voice Legacy (LEVL).
“He taught us that: 'Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.
Griffin continues, “This highlights the belief that love should guide the use of power, making sure it lifts up and protects those who are vulnerable instead of controlling or hurting them. We are so hungry for this message today.”

Last January, over 750 children and families across Snohomish and King Counties participated in activities that promoted Rev. Dr. King's Beloved Community values.

“Community is built when we learn and play together. Whether it’s the children's book reading station, family ballet lessons, individual and group performances on the main stage, arts and crafts, including pottery making, or creating quick and easy homemade snacks, we have found the formula for creating space that fosters belonging, cultural pluralism, and caring communities among our neighbors.
"This is what we do on the day we commemorate Rev. Dr. King’s birthday,” Griffin continued.

The mission of LEVL is to inspire, embrace, and develop models of a Beloved Community that promote grassroots involvement, centered on love, social well-being, and economic justice.

A Beloved Community fosters a lively, nurturing environment free of hatred, injustice, and poverty, and it includes everyone.

LEVL’s primary strategy over the past eight years has been to create common gathering spaces to connect with a caring community of culturally diverse people in South Snohomish and North King Counties who are inspired and motivated by the legacy of Dr. King, according to Griffin.
