Food Drive Saturday June 27, 2026 Richmond Beach Congregational Church

Friday, June 26, 2026

Food drives are critical in the summer because many children lose access to free or reduced-price school meals when classes end. This massive surge in household food needs quickly drains local pantries, which historically receive far fewer donations during the summer months than during the winter. Our quarterly food drive is more important than ever.

Please join us in helping our neighbors by dropping your donations off this Saturday, June 27, 2026 from 11:00am - 1:00pm. Drive thru…upper parking lot.

These items are particularly needed:

 Low sodium, no sugar added, packed in water or juice
 Pop-top cans are appreciated, not everyone has access to a can opener
 Canned vegetables: green beans, peas, corn
 Canned fruit (any variety)
 Canned chicken
 Canned tuna
 Coffee (instant or ground)
 Shelf-stable milk
 100% fruit juice (no sugar added)
 Brown rice
 Whole-grain pasta
 Long-grain rice
 Spices (salt, pepper, sugar)
 Flour
 Pancake mixes
 Condiments
 Dry black beans
 Dry red beans
 Oats

Shoreline Food Drive recap - Together we did something incredible

Thursday, December 18, 2025

By Kate Ledbetter, www.DestinationShoreline.com, Shoreline Food Drive Organizer

Thanks to the amazing Shoreline / Lake Forest Park community, the Shoreline Food Drive made a huge impact for our neighbors. Across Shoreline and LFP, Food Drive drop-off locations at local businesses and community events, you donated an incredible 6,143 pounds of food to Hopelink!

On top of that, your generosity helped raise $2,215 in monetary donations through the Destination Shoreline fundraising page, directly supporting food access for families right here in Shoreline.

“We are so grateful for your support. While both the food and funds are incredibly impactful to the Shoreline community, we are also so appreciative of the initiative to inspire others to host drives, sign up to volunteer, or possibly connect with our services in a time of need!”
— Levi O’Tool, Hopelink, Development Officer, Corporate Relations

This drive was a powerful reminder that donations big and small truly matter. One can of soup, one bag of groceries, one shared post, when we come together, we can do really big things for our neighbors.

Huge thank you to our drop-off locations for supporting this effort:

Always Summer Ice Cream Cafe • Ballinger BECU • Ballinger Thriftway • CafĂ© Aroma • Dale Turner Family YMCA • Drumlin • Edward Jones (Suzan Shayler) • Greenhouse Market at Sky Nursery • Ion Town Center Apartments • Irons Brothers Construction • Lighting of the Shorelights Winter Light Display • Lumin Laundry • Magpie Thrift • Minuteman Press – North Seattle • Nixi City Play + Cafe • The Nock Point • Pet Evolution (also collecting pet food) • Ridgecrest Books • Ridgecrest Pub • Salvation: Artist Collective • Shoreline City Hall • Shoreline Cooperative Preschool • Shoreline Cooperative Preschool Harvest Carnival • Shoreline LFP Senior Activity Center • Shoreline Teen Center • ShoreSmiles Orthodontics • Sky Nursery • Spin Alley Bowling Center & Vault 177 • StretchLab Lake Forest Park • Third Place Commons • Uplift Climbing • Waxing The City Shoreline • Windermere Real Estate/Shoreline

Mud Bay sets sights on record support for PNW Animal Shelters with Tons of Love campaign and Giving Tree donations

Friday, December 12, 2025

Olympia, WA — Independent pet retailer Mud Bay is working to generate its largest-ever holiday support for Pacific Northwest animal shelters, with a goal of donating more than 30 tons of pet food this season.

Many shelters in the region continue to operate at or above capacity and face ongoing challenges in funding their community pet pantries. This holiday season, Mud Bay is committed to helping provide the food and supplies needed for pets awaiting adoption and for households in need of additional support.

As a longstanding Pacific Northwest company, Mud Bay has cultivated strong partnerships with 65 animal welfare organizations—each paired with a Mud Bay store in its local community.

Tons of love campaign matches manufacturers' donations to customer donations

To support its partners, Mud Bay is once again running its Tons of Love campaign. Tons of Love unites Mud Bay customers and pet food manufacturing partners, to deliver high-quality, nutritious pet food directly to shelters. When customers purchase food for their own pets, participating manufacturers contribute matching donations to Tons of Love, helping push toward this year’s goal of more than 30 tons of food delivered to animals in care.

Giving Tree allows donors to pick the shelter of their choice

At the same time, Giving Trees are available now through December 31 in all 64 Mud Bay locations in Washington and Oregon. Each tree includes donation tags from local shelters that list specific items needed for the animals they are caring for. Shoppers can select a tag, purchase the item at Mud Bay, and donate it directly to that partner organization.

To increase the impact, Mud Bay will match Giving Tree donations up to $30,000, part of the company’s ongoing commitment to animal welfare—which includes more than $1,000,000 donated annually to shelters and rescues across the region.

About Mud Bay

Founded in Olympia in 1988, family and employee-owned Mud Bay has grown to become PNW’s largest independent pet retailer, with 64 locations and over 500 employees in Washington and Oregon.

Mud Bay locations are well-known for their welcoming environments, in-depth knowledge of pet food and supplies, and ongoing commitment to animal welfare—donating over $1 million annually to animal welfare organizations in the PNW.

Inglemoor sophomores use 5k run to raise money for the Woodinville Storehouse food bank

Tuesday, December 9, 2025

Emma Scharler and Matina Surana at the Woodinville Turkey Trot 5k

Matina Surana and Emma Scharler are sophomores at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore.

They are part of a club, HOSA – Future Health Professionals. They are focusing on a Community Awareness project for the club, and centralizing on hunger in our community.

Emma and Matina participated in the Woodinville Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day and used the opportunity to raise awareness about hunger in their community.

Emma and Matina finished the 5k with their posters intact.

They ran the race wearing large, eye-catching posters that said “Help the Hungry” and included QR codes so people could easily donate to their local food drive at Woodinville Storehouse.

They wanted to make a fun, visual statement that encouraged the community to support those experiencing food insecurity.

By participating in both the parade and the 5k race they got maximum visibility. They wore eye-catching turkey hats, large posters with QR codes and handed out flyers.

Their goal was to collect $1,000 of monetary donations and 200 cans of non-perishables by February 5th for Woodinville Storehouse Food Bank.

But what inspired them? Matina explains:

"Over the summer, I traveled to Nepal-- a 3rd world country located between India and China-- to visit my family. I saw lots of people struggling with food insecurity and I tried to make an impact by cooking extra food and handing it out.

"I came back knowing what life is like for people who are less fortunate, and it opened my eyes to the fact that hunger exists within our community, but is often an overlooked issue. This helped me realize that I wanted to help make a change in my own community.

"While choosing our topic, I asked Emma what her reasoning was for focusing on hunger in our community.

"She told me that 'Food is a basic survival need-- people should not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. If one family gets fed because of our efforts, that will be one more family going to bed without an empty stomach than before.
'As a student, I want to use my voice to advocate about issues that affect more people than most of us know.'

"Inspired by our awareness of global food insecurity, our goal is to show the community how they can help make a local change.

"We are working to reach as many people as possible to educate them on this communal issue."

The girls have raised $525 on a GoFundMe page toward their goal of $1,000.

Greenhouse Winter Market ended the farmers market season on a high note

Sunday, November 30, 2025

Story and Photos from the Shoreline Farmers Market

What an incredible weekend! We are still buzzing from the success of our first annual Greenhouse Winter Market! This event marked the spectacular close of Shoreline Farmers Market Season 14, and it exceeded every expectation.

More than 50 incredible local small businesses had the opportunity to share their special creations and hearts with our community.

Shoppers voted with their dollars! Many vendors reported record sales, with some even selling out completely, a huge win for our local entrepreneurs!

A massive thank you to our incredible host and event partner, Sky Nursery! They offered a beautiful, warm space and stellar staff support. Magical!

The market’s impact goes far beyond sales. We are thrilled to have supported the vital food access work of Hopelink and their food pantry in two significant ways:
  1. Vendor Fees Donated: All vendor booth fees (kept intentionally low to help incubate small businesses) were donated, raising an amazing $2,760!
  2. Pantry Staples Drive: We asked visitors to bring pantry staples, and wow, did you show up! Together, we donated over 1,100 pounds of food this weekend alone.
We are truly filled with gratitude and joy after this last event of the season. Thank you to every vendor, shopper, volunteer, and staff member who made this possible.

Let this celebration inspire you to know that one small act can make a difference in your community. Small businesses and food access programs continue to need your support year-round.

See you next season!
