Update to article about collision on Westminster Way

Tuesday, July 21, 2026

According to the driver, this vehicle was hit head on

By Diane Hettrick

A reader, who happened to be the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the collision, contacted us to set the record straight about the vehicle collision on Westminster Way.

Here's our original article. The reporter, who arrived on the scene as the response was wrapping up, surmised that the silver vehicle had come from a driveway on the north side of the road and hit the blue vehicle, which was traveling south.

We reported "A black SUV was traveling south on Westminster Way when it collided with a silver vehicle apparently exiting from the driveway at Bullseye Creative," and "one person was sent to the hospital."

Not so, says Jan Von Lehe, driver of the blue (not black) vehicle.

I was the driver in the blue Subaru Outback. I was hit by an oncoming vehicle (the silver one) who was heading north and lost control, crossed the median, hit me head on. My car was indeed flipped  around 180.

So this is NOT a case of other driver pulling out of Bullseye Creative driveway - - it was a high speed head on collision and I was not at fault at all.  Additionally I was sent to the hospital ER and found to have sternal fracture.

The driver of the silver car was transported to the hospital by Shoreline Medics. Jan was examined by Medics but was not transported. However, one of the King County Deputies on the scene convinced to get checked at the hospital where they found the fracture.

The condition of the transported driver was not reported.

A series of unfortunate events

Saturday, July 4, 2026

Photo being shared around the internet

An unidentified male was practicing riding his presumably new motorcycle in the parking lot of the Ronald United Methodist Church on Aurora.

The motorcycle got away from him, running into a chain link fence next to Brotherton Cadillac just south of the church at 17545 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133.

He hit the fence so hard that he went through it.

He went through the fence section with the sign and flew into a car at the end of the line

Church property is about six feet higher than the sales lot, so the cycle went airborne and landed in the backseat of a car for sale on the lot. The rider was bounced onto the ground, where he lay stunned for a while.

With apparently nothing broken, he tried unsuccessfully to dislodge his bike.

Police say he is not in trouble with them - no investigation or charges will be brought.

The dealership may have a different viewpoint.

Suspect charged in the hit and run death of Shoreline woman October 4, 2025

Saturday, April 4, 2026

Abel T. Zekaryas in court

Abel T. Zekaryas, 23, was charged in King County Superior Court with Felony Hit and Run for the death of 67-year-old Beverly Lockhart.

On October 4, 2025, she was crossing Aurora just south of N. 198th when she was hit. Security cameras from a nearby apartment complex captured the scene.

Zekaryas tried unsuccessfully to avoid her, but when he didn't, he left her lying next to the road and continued north on Aurora into Snohomish county.

He continued on Hwy 99, then turned and headed south. He stopped in the parking lot of a business, got out to examine the damage to his car, and then left.

Shoreline deputies and medics responded to the scene. KCSO Major Accident Response and Reconstruction ("MARR") led the investigation.

MARR Detective Skaar was able to identify the make and model of the car from parts left at the scene, witness accounts, and surveillance video from the Edmonds business where the driver stopped.

Detective Skaar did a Flock search for all white Volvo sedans in the last 30 days in the Puget Sound area. Using the results, Det. Skaar found a vehicle with the right year and model that was missing the parts found at the scene of the collision.

Three days after the hit and run, the suspect was cited for driving in an HOV lane. Body camera footage provided the license number, which led to the name of the driver. The driver's appearance matched the video from the business.

Obtaining a search warrant for the driver's cell phone data, and using TRAX, a law enforcement database which maps coordinates of cell phone records, Det. Skaar found that the vehicle was in the vicinity of the site of the collision in Shoreline and the business in Edmonds at the date and times of the known events.

The Defendant was released upon his personal recognizance at first appearance. The State is requesting conditions of release to include no driving without a valid license and insurance and no moving violations.

UPDATED: 24 year old Granite Falls man killed on I-5 exit ramp at 175th after eluding police overnight

Sunday, September 21, 2025

Location of collision

A 42 year old motorist from Lake Stevens was traveling southbound I-5 on the exit ramp to 175th. 24 year old Colton K. Petit from Granite Falls was on foot on the left shoulder of the exit ramp.

As the vehicle approached, Petit ran across the ramp and was struck by the car and thrown. The driver stopped.

Petit was deceased at the scene. The off-ramp was closed for two hours from 8:30 - 10:30am, September 20, 2025.

The rest of the story:

At approximately 7:40pm Friday evening, September 19, 2025, a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) employee advised that they were struck by a wrong way vehicle SB I-5 near 175th.

As troopers were responding the WSDOT driver stated that they were almost at a stop and did not sustain any injuries, however the wrong way driver fled the scene on foot. Troopers and other allied agencies were not able to locate the driver.

Just before 6:00am this morning, September 20, 2025, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received a 9-1-1 call from an individual reporting that a pedestrian jumped in front of their vehicle as they were exiting from SB 1-5 to 175. Troopers and medical aid responded to the scene but unfortunately the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As the investigation continued, it was determined that the pedestrian was the suspect driver from the wrong way hit and run the previous evening. The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian showed no signs of impairment and there will be no charges filed.

If anyone has any additional information on either one of these incidents, please call the Washington State Patrol.

Two dead, three injured after speeding car drives off Edmonds ferry dock

Edmonds ferry dock
Photo from Google maps

Republished from MyEdmondsNews.com

Two people died and three were injured after a car being pursued by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office drove off the Edmonds-Kingston ferry dock late Tuesday night.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe said that a sheriff’s office deputy observed the vehicle — a Mini Cooper — driving recklessly in the 12100 block of southbound Interstate 5 just before 11:15 p.m. Tuesday. “The vehicle was driving at speeds over 100 mph and weaving in and out of traffic,” O’Keefe said.

The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle’s driver “continued driving recklessly at approximately 120 mph,” O’Keefe said, adding that the deputy initiated a vehicle pursuit for reckless driving. The driver took the 196th Street Southwest exit off I-5 and the pursuit continued to Mountlake Terrace and then Edmonds, O’Keefe said.

After the deputy lost sight of the vehicle, he continued searching the area to relocate it. At the Edmonds ferry terminal, the deputy “observed the crossing arms at the ferry terminal were destroyed and he heard people yelling from in the water,” O’Keefe said.

Three of the car’s occupants were rescued from the water and taken to Harborview Medical Center. The sheriff’s office dive team responded to search for additional occupants and they recovered two decedents, O’Keefe added. The Mini Cooper was also towed from the water, she said.

The sheriff’s office has requested that the Washington State Patrol investigate the incident, O’Keefe said.

The state patrol said in an incident report that the vehicle drove through the barrier on the ferry loading ramp and “came to rest on its top in Puget Sound.”

The report identified the three who were rescued as the vehicle’s driver, a 29-year-old man from Tulalip; a female passenger, ages 30, from Auburn; and a male passenger, 38, from Federal Way. The deceased victims, identified by the state patrol as passengers, were a 48-year-old woman from Auburn and a 45-year-old woman from Lakewood.

Drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, the patrol said.

Washington State Ferries issued an alert early Wednesday morning that Edmonds-Kingston ferry service was suspended “due to law enforcement activity” but announced at 5 a.m. that service had resumed

Roll over accident blocks intersection on 15th NE Thursday evening

Saturday, May 24, 2025

By Patrick Ducey

At about a quarter to six on Thursday evening, May 22, 2025 a vehicle driving southbound on 15th Ave NE appeared to turn too sharply at the curve at 196th Street, and struck the rock wall.

As a result of the collision, the vehicle ended up on its side, with the driver still inside.

The Shoreline Fire Department sent several units, which quickly blocked almost all of this busy intersection, and they quickly made contact with the driver.

Shortly thereafter, they had the vehicle stabilized, the roof was cut off, and they extracted the driver, who was transported in an aid unit.

By 7:30pm, the vehicle had been towed, and this distraction to the Thursday evening commute was gone.

Many thanks to the Shoreline Fire Department for their rapid response and calm professionalism working at this accident.
