Give Blood BEFORE it's needed - Friday June 26, 2026 at Shoreline Covenant

Wednesday, June 24, 2026

By Tom Petersen

The 4th of July weekend is coming up, and, unfortunately, people are known to overdo it . . . right in the middle of the usual low point for blood donations.

Bloodworks has issued a "Code Red," with supplies low and appointments dropping off. They're hoping to see lots of donors on Friday, June 26, 2026 at the Shoreline Covenant Church, 9am to 3pm, 1330 North 185th Street, Shoreline 98133.

Blood is something that can't be replaced by technology or substituted by artificial means. Shoreline needs YOU.

Giving blood takes only an hour or less, and the need is constant. The #1 way people start giving blood is by following the examples of friends and family, so experienced donors are encouraged to bring along a new prospect. New donors can also buddy up with each other!

People aged 16 or 17 and over 125 pounds can donate with written permission from a guardian; everyone needs photo ID.

Appointments are recommended; go to www.bloodworksnw.org or call 1-800-398-7888. Walk ups are welcome on a space available basis; Friday's drive has a large capacity so it should be no problem.

Shoreline Blood Drives in June

Tuesday, June 2, 2026

By Tom Petersen

Bloodworks Northwest, like all blood collection agencies, looks at summer as the 100 hardest days of the year: the need for blood rises, while donations fall off. Please do your part to help your friends, family and neighbors this sunny season by taking just an hour to give!

June 14 is World Blood Donation Day, and there are five opportunities throughout the month to give locally:

1.  Friday, June 5, the mobile crew will be at Ballinger Commons from 9am to 3pm.

2.  Wednesday, June 10, a bloodmobile will be parked in front of Town & Country Market from 10am to 4pm.

3.  Two days later, on Friday, June 12, Bloodworks will be in the meeting room at Shoreline Fire Dept Station #61, on Aurora at 175th, from 9:30am to 3:30pm.

4.  Wednesday, June 24, sees the Bloodworks crew at Fircrest School, from 9am to 3pm.

5.  Finishing the week and month, there is the indoor drive at Shoreline Covenant Church on Friday June 26 from 9am to 3pm.

There are other mobile drives on other June dates in nearby Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, and northern Seattle; the Bloodworks donor centers in northern Seattle and Lynnwood are open daily as well.

Prospective donors can navigate the easy-to-use interactive map to find the most convenient mobile drive or center.

Appointments are recommended, and can be made by calling 1-800-398-7888 or by going on the website.

Walk-ups are taken on a space-available basis. All donors need to bring photo ID; 16 and 17 year olds need written permission from a parent or guardian. Most healthy adults are good candidates for donating blood; all donors are carefully screened, as some medications and travel to certain places may carry risks.

Prospective first-timers can learn more and do some "pre-screening" for eligibility here.

Starr Sutherland, Jr. Post 227 of The American Legion is hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 9:30am to 4:00pm Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

By Doug Cerretti, Blood Program Leader

Starr Sutherland, Jr. Post 227 of The American Legion will host an American Red Cross blood drive Wednesday, January 21, 2024.

Hosting a blood drive coincides with The American Legion’s core values of giving back to the community, not only to veterans and their families but also to the community in which we live.

With a simple blood donation, we have the ability to help save the life of someone who could be a coworker, loved one or neighbor.

The postage stamp “Giving Blood Saves Lives” was Issued March 12, 1971 at a time when blood donations were not keeping up with demand. The stamp was meant to raise awareness of blood donor programs, thus increasing needed donations.

Blood supplies are low so please consider donating blood. You can sign up for American Red Cross Blood Drives at www.redcrossblood.org. By using the sponsor code "Shoreline", you can quickly get to the blood drive at Post 227 to sign up. Starr Sutherland, Jr. Post 227 of The American Legion is located at 14521 17th Ave NE, Shoreline, WA 98155.

The American Red Cross and the NFL are partnering for the seventh year during National Blood Donor Month this January. Donate between January 1-25, 2026, to automatically be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LX in the San Francisco Bay Area, as our thank you for helping during the critical post-holiday time!

Health emergencies don’t pause for holidays or game day. Donors are needed now: Step off the sidelines and roll up a sleeve to help patients in need.

The winner and guest will get to enjoy Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, CA, access to day-of in-stadium pregame activities, tickets to the official Super Bowl Experience, round-trip airfare, three-night hotel accommodations (Feb. 6-9, 2026), plus a $1,000 gift card for expenses.

Resolve to Give Blood in 2026

Saturday, January 3, 2026

From Bloodworks NW

You know what we love about January? It’s a fresh start. A chance to do something that really matters. And here’s one simple, powerful way: donate blood.

January is National Blood Donor Month, and it couldn’t come at a better time. The winter months are tough with holiday distractions, cold weather, and flu season mean fewer donations and a greater risk of shortages. But you can change that.

Since 1970, January has been designated as a month to honor and celebrate the incredible generosity of America’s volunteer blood donors and encourage more people to donate when the need is greatest.

Volunteer blood donors are the only source of lifesaving blood. One in 7 people entering a hospital will need blood and local hospitals are at capacity. In fact, blood is being transfused in local hospitals faster than it is being donated.

Your donation this month is critical to health of our community. Please make a blood donation appointment today.

This January, the City of Shoreline Mayor, on behalf of the Shoreline City Council, proclaimed the month of January 2026 as Blood Donor Month in the City of Shoreline!

"WHEREAS, to help strengthen our community's resilience, the City of Shoreline encourages all residents to give back by donating blood, volunteering, or supporting local drives, and;

"WHEREAS, Shoreline community partners have joined Bloodworks Northwest in hosting pop-up donation centers to support local patients;

"NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christopher Roberts, Mayor of Shoreline, on behalf of the Shoreline City Council, do hereby proclaim the month as January 2026 as BLOOD DONOR MONTH in the City of Shoreline and call upon all residents to participate in this life-saving effort by giving blood and supporting local donation events."

Make your appointment at www.bloodworksnw.org, or call 1-800-398-7888.
  • Wednesday, January 7, 9am - 3pm Fircrest School, Washington State Department of Social & Health Services
  • Saturday, January 10, 9am - 3pm, Shoreline Fire Department Safety Center, Richmond Beach (November Richmond Beach donors are eligible again!)
  • Saturday, January 17, 10am - 4pm, Uplift Climbing Gym on 15th NE
  • Wednesday, January 21, 9am - 3pm Shoreline City Hall
  • Wednesday, January 28, 8am - 2pm Dale Turner YMCA Family Center

Emergency Blood Drive Friday December 26, 2025 in Richmond Beach

Sunday, December 21, 2025

By Tom Petersen

The flooding that has devastated parts of King, Snohomish, and Skagit Counties this past week is heartbreaking, and those fortunate to have been spared are naturally asking what they can do to help their neighbors across the region.

One of the most important and effective ways to contribute is to donate blood. While giving clothing and housewares to relief organizations can feel sensible, it actually creates a logistical burden that can slow recovery by getting in the way of normal, planned disaster relief.

Donating blood, on the other hand, maintains the necessary stocks of something vital, without substitute, and perishable.

Many blood drives have had to be cancelled in the areas hit by flooding, while thousands of people planning to give blood in those regions had to skip their appointments in the face of calamity.
The regional blood supply took a dive, and it's up to those of us above the waterline to make up for it.

The Bloodworks Northwest "One More Gift" out-of-sequence blood drive in Richmond Beach on Friday, December 26 (Boxing Day, the day after Christmas, the first day of Kwanzaa) has taken on special urgency. Bloodworks hopes all those who can take just an hour to help out.

Regular donors who have not given in the last 56 days are eligible, as are most healthy adults. First timers are welcome, and reminded that it's more fun if friends donate together! It's been a big year for first time donors, and the goal is that they all are second-time donors too!

Kids aged 16 and 17 and over 125 pounds can donate wirth written parental permission. All donors must present photo ID, and all are screened for medications and travels so that the blood supply is not imperiled.

The Richmond Beach blood drives are held in a cozy bloodmobile parked in front of the Shoreline Fire Department's Safety & Education Center, at 1851 NW 195th Street, Shoreline, 98177 (aka the corner of Richmond Beach Road and 20th Ave NW.)

It is open from 9am to 3pm. Walk-ups are welcome on a space-available basis; appointments are preferred and can be made at www.bloodworksnw.org or by calling 1-800-398-7888.

Donate blood in Shoreline December 12, 2025

Wednesday, December 3, 2025

By Tom Petersen

Join your friends and neighbors at Bloodworks Northwest’s Shoreline Covenant Church blood drive on Friday, December 12, 2025.

Appointments are available between 9:00am and 3:00pm. Sign up for your appointment by clicking here. You can also go to www.bloodworksnw.org or call 1-800-398-7888. Walk-ups are accepted on a space-available basis.

Blood donations are needed year-round, but they’re most critical during holidays when donations drop and fewer people have time to donate. Preparing our blood supply for extreme weather is critical for patients.

Make a blood donation at the Shoreline Covenant Church on 12/12 as part of your holiday giving. It only takes an hour to make a difference.

Those who donate in December can enter to win a trip to Rome for two, with direct flights from Seattle or Portland provided by Delta Air Lines, a 3-night hotel stay at the luxurious Hassler Roma, and concert tickets.

In the Season of Giving . . . Give Blood

Tuesday, December 2, 2025

By Tom Petersen

Blood is without substitute. Donating blood is a profound gift that saves lives. Bloodworks Northwest and countless families are united in their gratitude for the big turnouts at mobile blood drives throughout Shoreline and neighboring communities in November. They hope to keep the spirit going in December.

In this season of giving, take an hour to give the best gift of all – a lifesaving pint of blood. When you give blood, Bloodworks Northwest will have you wrapped up in an hour or less, cookie in hand, with the warm feeling that you just gave local patients another shot at life.

Your blood donations support people across the Pacific Northwest undergoing cancer treatment, surgeries, and organ transplants. If you’re ready to make a difference, go to Bloodworks Northwest to find a local center or drive near you.

Giving blood is something most healthy adults can do. 16 and 17 year olds over 125 pounds are eligible as well, with written parental permission. All prospective donors must show photo ID; everyone is carefully screened, as some medications and foreign travel may be cause for deferral.

Richmond Beach Blood Drive, Saturday, November 15, 2025

Sunday, November 9, 2025

By Tom Petersen

The Bloodworks Northwest mobile unit makes its 85th appearance in Richmond Beach on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

It is quite the neighborhood institution, and will be in its accustomed spot, in front of the Fire Safety Center at the corner of Richmond Beach Road and 20th Ave NW, at its traditional time, 9am to 3pm.

Bloodworks is looking for the neighborhood to uphold its reputation for reliably bringing in a lot of donations.

Appointments are preferred, and can be made at www.bloodworksnw.org or by calling 1-800-398-7888.

Same-day appointments and walk-ups are welcome, on a space-available basis.

The number one way people become blood donors is through the encouragement of friends and family, so, "regulars," talk it up around the neighborhood and bring a friend!

Donating blood takes an hour or less and helps maintain the supply of something for which there is no substitute. Heading into the holidays, the need for blood typically goes up while donations drop off.

Back to School Blood Drive in Richmond Beach September 6, 2025

Tuesday, September 2, 2025

By Tom Petersen

It's time for the Back To School Blood Drive in Richmond Beach!
We shipped 10 units of platelets to Minnesota hospitals after the Annunciation Catholic Church tragedy. We were able to respond immediately because of the many donors who came forward when our local supply fell low this month.
We’re looking for 28 generous donors
to roll up their sleeves and donate blood at the Shoreline Fire Safety Center at the corner of Richmond Beach Road & 20th Ave NW on Saturday, September 6, 2025 — and we’re calling on you to help make a life-saving impact.

Bloodworks Northwest welcomes back its dedicated donors, but we are always searching for new people to get into the habit of helping their neighbors in the most profound way.

People who are 16 and 17 years old and over 125 lbs can give blood, with written parental permission.

Will you commit to donating? Sign up here or call 1-800-398-7888. The bloodmobile will take walk-ups on a space-available basis; it will be the "big bus" this time, so this is likely.

If you are not sure if you are eligible, call the above number and ask to speak to an advisor, or visit www.bloodworksnw.org to view the general guidelines.

For those eager to donate who can't make it Saturday or who gave blood over the summer and are waiting for the 56th day to pass to be eligible again, visit the Bloodworks website to see the many other opportunities in Shoreline and adjacent communities in September.

Bloodmobiles will be in Edmonds on September 3, Lake Forest Park on the 4th, Kenmore on the 16th, Town & Country Market on September 29, and the Edmonds Waterfront Center the next day. There are also numerous dates and locations in Bothell.

Fircrest School hosting Blood Drive August 27, 2025

Wednesday, August 20, 2025

By Tom Petersen

The Bloodworks Northwest mobile unit will be at the Fircrest School on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from 9am to 3pm, handy for donors on Shoreline's east side!

Shoreline came up big on the first weekend in August, delivering over 60 much-needed units of blood at a time when supplies throughout the region were critically low. Now with Labor Day weekend and an east coast hurricane fast approaching, the need for blood will once again be high.

The bloodmobile will be on the grounds at 15230 15th Avenue NE, 98155 . . . look for signs and a big blue air-conditioned bus! Donating blood takes an hour or less.

Appointments are recommended, but walk-ups are taken on a space-available basis. Book a time to fit your schedule at www.bloodworksnw.org or call 1-800-398-7888.

Whole blood donations can be made every 8 weeks and it's a great routine that benefits all people.

For those who aren't "on cycle" for the Fircrest event, there will be mobile drives in Richmond Beach on September 6 and elsewhere in Shoreline at the end of September.

Bloodworks also has donation centers open most days of the week in Lynnwood and northern Seattle; these centers also have apheresis machines to collect blood products like platelets and plasma.

Big Blood Donation Weekend coming at beginning of August

Tuesday, July 22, 2025

By Tom Petersen

Summer typically sees available blood supplies dip to dangerous levels, and this year matters have been made worse by the floods in Texas and New Jersey.

Natural disasters not only injure people, but they keep whole regions from holding their blood drives for weeks or months. Thus the national supply is depleted.

One of the best ways to help both our neighbors and the nation would be to donate blood at one of the three Emergency Drives around the first weekend in August.

Bloodworks NW will have two indoor teams set up one day, and the mobile unit on another.

Use the QR code, or go to www.bloodworksnw.org, or phone 1-800-398-7888 to make an appointment.

Spread the word through your social channels and encourage friends, neighbors, and family to join you in this life saving act.
Walk-ups will be taken on a space-available basis; same-day appointments can be made. 16 and 17 year-olds over 125 pounds may donate with written parental permission; all prospective donors must bring photo ID.

Heroes needed on July 12, 2025 at the Richmond Beach Community Blood Drive

Sunday, June 29, 2025

By Tom Petersen

We’re still looking for 25 generous donors to roll up their sleeves and donate blood on July 12, 2025 at the Richmond Beach Community Drive —and we’re calling on you to help make a life-saving impact.

Think about how we often spend an hour: scrolling through our phones, catching up on a show… it goes by in a flash. But for local patients in need, one hour can mean the world.

In just one hour, you can donate a pint of blood and that simple act could save a life.

If you're eligible, will you commit to donating on July 12? To sign up, visit www.bloodworksnw.org, or click this link or call 1-800-398-7888.

If July 12 doesn't work for you, find your time and date at one of the many other mobile drives in the area, or visit one of the donor centers.

Bloodworks NW needs 1,000 people to step up every day to keep our community’s blood supply stable.

Summer activities like travel, visiting guests, and fun in the sun sometimes prevent would-be donors from donating blood, and our inventory struggles throughout the season. But our community’s need for blood is constant, no matter the weather.

Blood Donors needed as summer starts

Thursday, June 12, 2025

By Tom Petersen, A+

It's a well-understood pattern: blood donations drop off during the Summer months, as people travel and have other kinds of fun, while the need for blood increases, for people having elective surgeries and revelers who overdo it.

Before you leave on your own adventures, please consider finding a Bloodworks Northwest mobile drive, or drop into one of the area donor centers before you go.

Donating blood is safe and quick . . . and necessary: there's no substitute, and the need never lets up.

Whole blood can be donated every eight weeks; much-needed platelets and plasma can be donated more frequently at the Lynnwood and North Seattle donor centers.

In Shoreline and surrounding communities, there are nine mobile events during the rest of June, with many more in Seattle, Bellevue and Everett.

Look for a time a place that works for you:
  • 6/16, OrangeTheory Fitness, Bothell, 10:00-4:00
  • 6/17, Northshore Utility District, Kenmore, 9:00-3:00
  • 6/18, AT&T Bothell, 9:00-3:00
  • 6/25, Fircrest School, Shoreline, 9:00-3:00
  • 6/27, Greenwood Senior Center, Seattle, 10:00-4:00
  • 6/28, Progressive Performance, Woodinville, 8:30-2:30
  • 6/30, Edmonds Waterfront Center (aka Senior Center), 9:00-3:00
  • 7/1, Providence-Swedish Hospital, Edmonds, 9:00-3:00
Go to www.bloodworksnw.org for full addresses and to make an appointment, or call 1-800-398-7888.

Donors can be as young as 16-17 years old with written parental permission, but must weigh 125 lbs.

Donating blood is more fun when friends do it together; Bloodworks is always seeking first-time donors, and hopes experienced donors make it a regular habit.
