Stefan Grozev, Senior Surface Water Program Specialist for the City of Shoreline, reopened Echo Lake to the public after recent algae tests indicated the water is safe to recreate in and toxic parameters are below the recreational thresholds.

Echo Lake is prone to algae blooms, both toxic and benign. Stefan advises,

"Always use caution when algae is present in the water. Both toxic algae and non-harmful varieties of algae can appear quickly. If you see algae in the water, we do not recommend entering the water in that area."
