Jazz Walk - photos and survey

Booths, food, people, all to the tune of lively jazz music

By Diane Hettrick

This year's Jazz Walk was a wonderful combination of street scene and intimate indoor settings. Thanks to Rod Dembowski and the City of Shoreline, five blocks of 15th NE in the North City Business District were pedestrian only for the night.

Shear Jazz at the Frank Lumber outdoor venue

Foot Stompers - next to the Rotary Beer Garden

The street was full of music with Foot Stompers and Shear Jazz playing sets at a venue created from a parking lot at Frank Lumber annex.

Beer drinkers could sit inside the fence and sip a cool brew from the Rotary Clubs of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park.

In line at the food trucks

By far the biggest crowds were in the lines for the food trucks. Jazz Bites were available at street stations. Mexican Food and Jeremy's Chicken at the trucks. Cookie dough treats in another food truck.

Face painting - wearable art

A Creative in action

Kids had a good time creating art or wearing art from the very popular face painting set up. Some just used chalk to make street art.

Ranger Rearranger at Sodam Chicken

Inside venues were quiet as people absorbed the sounds. Several places had drinks and food. Others were just for the performances.

Pearl Django

Perennial favorite Pearl Django played at the North City Bistro.

It was far better to have a street closure than a pandemic closure. This was possibly the most popular Jazz Walk to date.

Plan on next year and we'll all do it again.

And speaking of next year, help the planners by taking this survey, which will be open for just a few days.

It doesn't take more than a minute or two: SURVEY

Everything to know about Jazz Walk August 11, 2026 - street festival, food, music indoor and out

Saturday, July 25, 2026

North City’s favorite jazz festival is back for its 18th year! This year's event features a vibrant five-block-long street scene buzzing with food trucks, family-friendly fun, and local businesses, two free outdoor stages flanked by beer and wine gardens, and five indoor venues where you can enjoy everything from Django-inspired gypsy jazz, and rootsy Americana, to smoky bluesy jazz, and gospel-infused grooves.

There's something for everyone!

Details:
Tuesday August 11, 2026 - five blocks of 15th NE from 175th NE to 180th NE

6:00 pm - The street festival opens with community organizations and local businesses, face-painting and games for kids, and activities for the whole family;

- Two beer and wine gardens next to the free outdoor stages start pouring beverages donated by Georgetown Brewing, Fremont Brewing, and Vault 177—with all proceeds going to local community projects coordinated by Shoreline Rotary and Lake Forest Park Rotary;

- Five indoor (ticketed) music venues begin serving special "Jazz Bites" food and/or beverages;

- Six food trucks begin offering barbecue, Mexican fare, gourmet hot dogs, Mediterranean cuisine, grilled and smoked chicken, vegan options, and dessert ice cream and cookie dough.

6:30 pm
- Bands begin playing at the two free outdoor stages, located at either end of the 'Walk in the parking lots of Frank Lumber "The Door Store", and Frank Lumber Bargain Barn.

7:00 pm - Bands begin playing at the five indoor venues: North City Bistro, North City Water District, North City Lounge, Sodam Chicken, and Bethel Lutheran Church. These venues require a wristband for entry.

Music:

- Each stage / venue features the same jazz musician / band all night long.
- All bands play three sets: the first two are 45 minutes long; the final set is 60 minutes long, with a 15 minute break between sets.
- Outdoor bands include The Foot Stompers, and Shear Jazz with Keith McClelland (one of the Jazz Walk's original founders).
- Indoor bands include Pearl Django, Greta Matassa, Angela Petrucci, Ranger and the Rearrangers, and the Elnah Jordan Experience.

Tickets:

- Online tickets are $30 at EventBrite; these must be exchanged for an entry wristband on the night of the event.
- Entry wristbands will soon be available at six locations so you can avoid having to exchange your ticket on the night of the event.
- Seating is limited, and most attendees purchase tickets in advance, so it's best not to wait until the day of the event (when the ticket price also goes up).

Five blocks of 15th Ave NE to close for Jazz Walk, thanks to donors

Monday, July 20, 2026

This year's North City Jazz Walk will be a five block-long street festival once again—thanks to these two generous individuals whose support made it possible for us to close down a portion of 15th Avenue NE:
  • King County Councilmember Rod Dembowski —who secured a grant to ensure the people he serves throughout North Seattle, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Bothell, Kenmore, and Kirkland can attend this event safely; and
  • Paul A. Barrera, Attorney at North City Law PC in Shoreline—his support will allow you to spend another warm summer evening wandering freely among our live jazz venues, food trucks, beer gardens, community booths, and children's activities.
Please join us in thanking them both for their kindness and support of our neighborhood and the Jazz Walk!

Everything you Need to Know about this year’s Jazz Walk

Wednesday, July 30, 2025

North City Jazz Walk Tuesday August 12, 2025 from 6-10pm

Questions and Answers about this year’s Jazz Walk

Is the Jazz Walk free?

Two of the venues will be outdoors and free to the public. Both feature ample seating for all ages, along with adjacent outdoor beer gardens for those age 21 and over (please have ID ready for verification).

If you wish to gain access to the indoor venues, you will need to purchase a ticket / wristband.

How much are tickets?

2025 ticket prices are $25 in advance (purchased before midnight on Monday August 11); day-of price is $30. If you purchase tickets online, EventBrite charges a small additional handling fee. You can avoid this fee by purchasing tickets in person at several merchants in the North City area.

Outside of babies that you will hold in your arms, children are required to have a ticket to access indoor venues, because they are counted as seat-holders by fire code. Ticket holders have access to all indoor venues (as well as the two outdoor free venues).

Thanks to the generosity of our stage sponsor and in-kind donors, who have helped us cover the costs of permitting, street closure, security, signage, and printing, the majority of your ticket fee goes directly to our awesome musicians.

Where can I park?
NOTE— please keep driveway open between North City Lumber and Loyal Automotive.

  • North City Lumber 1221 NE 175th Street Available after: 4:00 pm
  • Safeway 17202 - 15th Avenue NE after: 5:30 pm Limited parking on the north end of their lot (near gas station)
  • The old Anderson House Skilled Nursing and Rehab Facility just south of Laurel Cove 17127 - 15th Avenue NE after: 5:30 pm
  • Center for Human Services 17018 - 15th Avenue NE after: 5:30 pm
  • Street Parking-You can park on an adjacent street, as long as you do not block a driveway. Cars parked within the street closure section will not be allowed to exit until after the music finishes and the street reopens—some time after 11:00 pm

Or ride your bicycle!

Urbanist Shoreline will be running a Bike Valet at this event, so if you want to skip all the “where to park” info here and arrive on two wheels, we got you!!

Do I need to check in when I arrive?

All ticket holders must check in at our Ticket Kiosk to exchange their ticket for a wrist band. This wrist band is your pass to access the indoor venues (wrist bands are faster to check in at each venue, with less chance of losing a hand-held ticket).

You can do this at either of our two Ticket Kiosk locations:
  • One at the north end near the intersection of 15th Avenue NE and NE 179th Street
  • One centrally located near the intersection of 15th Avenue NE and NE 177th Street
NOTE 1: if you’ve already purchased a wristband from one of our local merchants, NO check-in is required (as long as you're wearing your wristband).
NOTE 2: if you're only attending the two free outdoor venues, you do NOT need tickets, and do NOT need to check in.

Where can I get tickets?

Advance tickets are available online- OR - avoid the check-in line on the night of the event (to exchange your ticket for an entry wristband) by purchasing a wristband in advance from one of the following locations — cash or check only — beginning Thursday July 24. (You can also purchase tickets on the night of the event at two on-site ticketing kiosks.)

Buy Advance Wristbands in North City
Buy Advance Wristbands in Shoreline:

Will 15th Avenue NE be closed down for the event this year?

YES! Thanks to the generous sponsorship from the Shoreline Rotary Club and Lake Forest Park Rotary Club, we are beyond excited to be able to close down five blocks of 15th Avenue NE (between 175th and 180th Streets) for the safety and enjoyment of our community.

What is the schedule for performances?

Each of our venues features the same band all evening. Each band plays four sets, lasting 45 minutes per set, with a 15 minute break between sets. Two venues are outdoors and free to the general public—these bands start playing at 6:30pm. All indoor venues are only accessible by those who purchased tickets / are wearing a wristband—indoor bands begin playing at 7:00pm.

See the lineup of bands and their locations at the website North City Jazz Walk Musicians

Can I bring my kids? Can I bring a dog?

Children are welcome to attend except for the two indoor venues that are serving alcohol and do not have the ability to create the required separation (North City Lounge, and North City Water District).

Children are not allowed inside the bar area of the other indoor venues, nor in the fenced beer garden portion of the outdoor venues.

Outside of babies that you will hold in your arms, children are required to have a ticket to access indoor venues, because they are counted as seat-holders by fire code.

Well-mannered dogs, under control, and on a leash no longer than 6 feet, are welcome at North City Jazz Walk. Flexi-leads are NOT allowed. Please do not bring a dog that is reactive to other dogs, to children, to other people, or is disturbed by loud live music.

North City Jazz Walk reserves the right to ask you to remove your dog from the event if we believe there is a problem.

Will there be food and/or beverages available?

Food trucks, two outdoor beer gardens, and several venues are offering special "Jazz Bites" food and beverages for purchase.

Why is the Jazz Walk always on a Tuesday? Wouldn't a weekend be better?

It's partly due to our original affiliation with the Celebrate Shoreline festival, partly about musician availability and support, and partly due to packed summer schedules...

When Keith McClelland first started planning the Jazz Walk back in 2007, the City of Shoreline helped support the cost so that it could be the kick off event for their week long Celebrate Shoreline festival.

Tuesday was the day that best fit their schedule. Being a musician himself, Keith knew musicians didn’t usually have any gigs early in the week, so a Tuesday also meant our jazz artists would have more availability and make a little money during the slower days of the week.

And because nice weekends in the summer are limited in the Pacific Northwest, summer events often get stacked up on weekends, making it more difficult for people to attend everything they're interested in.

All these reasons aside, we certainly understand that people need to work the next day (we do too, we're volunteers)... so that's why we try to wrap it up by 10:30pm (although you're free to start early so you can leave earlier too).

With a career spanning jazz, blues, R&B, and gospel, North City Jazz Walk is honored to introduce you to the soulful power of Elnah Jordan, paired with the versatile pianist Eric Verlinde. From her gospel roots in the choir stands of Kentucky, to the streets of San Francisco, from night clubs across the country to award winning Off Broadway productions, her voice carries a lifetime of musical journeys filled with passion, depth, and timeless music.

Birch Pereira and the Gin Joints at Sodam Chicken
Born out of a love of the early years of rock 'n 'roll, Americana and swing, Birch Pereira & the Gin Joints is a band whose sound transports you to the time of speakeasies, honky-tonks and roadhouses. With upright bassist and vocalist Birch Pereira at its center, the band features many of Seattle's most skilled and versatile musicians who share the love of the American song traditions and a desire to offer a fresh angle on them. https://www.theginjointsband.com/

Entremundos Quarteto at North City Bistro
Adriana Giordano's deep Brazilian roots are the backbone behind the sounds of EntreMundos Quarteto. The band's name means “between worlds," which is an apt description for their musical blend of funk, jazz and soul woven into the classic sounds of samba and bossa nova.

Greta Matassa at North City Water District
Returning Jazz Walk favorite Greta Matassa is one of the most talented, well-known, and beloved singers working in jazz today. Not only has she been voted "Northwest Vocalist of the Year" by Earshot Jazz 7 times in 15 years, and honored with a lifetime achievement award, she was inducted into the Earshot Jazz Hall of Fame in 2014. https://gretamatassa.com/

Michelle D’Amour and the Love Dealers at the North City Lounge
Michele D’Amour is a storyteller and award-winning songwriter who penned her first song at the age of six and became a published poet in her early twenties. Her lyrics treat difficult topics with a sense of soulful whimsy and wry humor. Michele sang in her church choir, wrote songs, and sang lead for some local bands before honing her craft at several of the jams in the Seattle area. Upon the advice of friends, she formed Michele D’Amour and the Love Dealers in 2011. www.micheledamourandthelovedealers.com
