Move Into Stillness: a women's gathering of movement and rest, September 20, 2026

Thursday, August 20, 2026

Summer was full, and back to school is already here. If you have spent the last few months caretaking for everyone around you, this is your invitation to be cared for.

Shakti Sisters invites women across North Seattle and Shoreline to Move Into Stillness on Saturday, September 20, 2026.

We start by dancing. The kind where nobody is watching and nobody cares how it looks. Come shake off your joy, your frustration, your grief, all of it. This is a place where you can anchor in all of that, in community with other women.

The session closes with yoga nidra, a guided deep rest that leaves most women feeling lighter than they have in months.

All women are welcome, whether you dance all the time or have not moved freely in years. The event runs on a sliding scale, so cost is never the reason to stay home.

Bring a sister and register to save your spot.

Sunday September 20, 2026 from 3:00pm – 5:30pm

Olympic Ballet Theatre presents Giselle May 9-10, 2026 in Edmonds

Wednesday, May 6, 2026

Olympic Ballet Theatre Presents Giselle
A timeless romantic masterpiece comes to Edmonds
May 9–10, 2026
Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 4th Ave N, Edmonds, WA 98020

Edmonds, WA — Olympic Ballet Theatre (OBT) concludes its 45th Anniversary Season with Giselle, returning to the company’s stage for the first time since 2017. Restaged by Artistic Directors Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev after Marius Petipa, and based on the original choreography by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, this iconic ballet returns to the Edmonds Center for the Arts for two performances only.

Set to the evocative score by Adolphe Adam, Giselle tells the haunting story of a young peasant girl who falls in love with a nobleman in disguise. When his betrayal is revealed, Giselle’s fragile heart cannot bear the truth. In the afterlife, she is summoned by the Wilis—vengeful spirits of betrayed women—but her enduring love ultimately saves the man who wronged her. A cornerstone of the Romantic ballet canon, Giselle is a moving meditation on love, loss, and forgiveness.

Guillaume Basso and Yasmin Arafe

A deeply personal work for OBT’s Artistic Directors, Giselle remains a favorite of both Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev.

During his career with Moscow Classical Ballet, Gorboulev performed all of the principal male roles in Giselle, while Vinson herself performed the title role when OBT performed it in 2014 and 2017.

This season, in a striking and meaningful artistic decision, the role will be danced by 21-year-old Yasmin Arafe, a dancer in OBT’s Trainee Program.

Arafe’s casting marks a significant moment for the organization. Still in the Trainee Program—and not yet a company member—she steps into one of the most emotionally and physically demanding roles in classical ballet.

Her selection reflects both her individual artistry and the continued growth of OBT, as well as the directors’ commitment to developing and trusting the next generation of dancers from within.

Harry and Pat will teach Rättviks polska. This is a commonly-done dance from Rättvik in Dalarna, Sweden. See a video here.

The band for the first half of the evening will be the Lilla Spelmanslag. The members of the Lilla Spelmanslag (led by Elise Snoey, with Itsani Murfin Paz, Eva Odderson and Alex Geisendorfur) will play energetic music to get you up onto the dance floor, including, possibly a Hardanger fiddle tune or two. The long-time duo of Irene Myers and John Peekstok will play for the second half and will blend fiddle (Irene) and strummed instruments (John) to keep you up and dancing until the end with music from a variety of regions of Scandinavia.

Classes

The Dances at the Swedish Club after the Sunday Pancake Breakfast continue in May and June of 2026.

Skandia and the Swedish Club are co-sponsoring Nordic dances after the Sunday pancake breakfasts at the Swedish Club. Our first dances had many new dancers, with lots of energy and enthusiasm. The music was fabulous! Based on this success, we are extending the fun through June (not happening in April though).
The dances will be fun and easy, including Schottis, Waltz, and mixers. The focus is on beginners. Singles and couples are welcome. We change partners frequently, and anybody can do either role.

Bring clean shoes to change into, with smooth firm soles and low flat heels for easy turning. If you don't have dance shoes, we have dance socks to help you turn easily.

Send any questions to lisa@hambo.us or 206-258-2580.

University Heights Center
FREE Monday beginner Scandinavian class

The class goes from 7-9 pm on Mondays, at the University Heights Center near UW on April 6, 20, and 27. We will continue on most Mondays through June 8. FREE!

The focus is on beginners; advanced dancers are welcome as well. Singles and couples are welcome. We change partners frequently, and anybody can do either role. We cover basic turning skills and variants of Waltz, Pivot, Schottis, Hambo, and other lovely couple turning dances, as well as fun mixers. You are welcome to ask to work on specific dances.

Bring clean shoes to change into, with smooth soles and low flat heels for easy turning. If you don't have dance shoes, we have dance socks to help you turn easily. Show up any time; no need to pre-register.
