Creative Kaleidoscope - Music/Art/Poetry camp for ages 6-9 at Shoreline College August 3-7, 2026

Pianist Dr. Jensina Oliver is bringing back the very popular Creative Kaleidoscope summer camp to the beautiful new music wing of the Bracken Building at Shoreline College this August! 

In its third year, the camp provides opportunities for imagination and creativity with a variety of hands-on learning projects. Students work daily on piano instruction in the keyboard lab, as well as with instrumental ensembles of familiar folk songs, using diverse percussion instruments and xylophones in the small ensembles studio. 

Interspersed with the music time are daily art projects, often conducted outside, including making homemade colorful instruments, painting watercolor scenes while listening to music, and a poetry composition project. 

The final hour on Friday is an art show for caregivers, including rhythm orchestra tunes, a piano solo, a piano duet, and full display of all of the art projects from the week. It's a very special camp and families are always amazed with what can be accomplished in just one week.

The Creative Kaleidoscope summer camp meets Monday through Friday, August 3-7th, from 9:30am until 12:00pm at the Bracken Building at Shoreline College 16101 Greenwood Ave N.

Dr. Oliver is assisted by Art Director Susan McIntyre and pianist Dr. Nicholas Tagab throughout the week. The camp maximum enrollment is 12 kids and there are a few spaces remaining.

Connect to Nature for Health & Wellness through Forest Bathing

Feeling overwhelmed? Burnt out from chronic reactivity and doing-doing-doing? 

The Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, is the simple and therapeutic act of spending time in a forest. This practice was developed in Japan during the 1980s and has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine. 

Studies have shown that time in nature is an antidote for stress and anxiety: lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood. 

This guided immersion experience moves us slowly through the park, offering a series of sensory invitations to simply be, in the moment. 16+

Shoreline College awards its first bachelor’s degrees to dental hygiene graduates

20 dental hygiene graduates awarded the first bachelor's degrees from Shoreline College

On Thursday, June 18, 2026, Shoreline College celebrated a historic milestone as the 20 graduates of its Dental Hygiene program became the first cohort of students to earn bachelor’s degrees from the college.

“I am incredibly proud of our graduates, and their increased participation in community health and interprofessional education with dental and medical students,” said dental hygiene professor Nikki Honey.

Launched in 2024, the Bachelor of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene (BASDH), which built upon the curriculum of the college’s Associate of Applied Science degree, requires students to complete 119 credits of intensive dental hygiene courses following the successful completion of all program prerequisites.

Shoreline’s Dental Hygiene program operates in partnership with the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Students earn their degrees through Shoreline College and are taught by Shoreline dental hygiene faculty, but the program is housed on the University of Washington Seattle campus. 

Speaking at this year’s Dental Hygiene Pinning Ceremony, Andre Ritter, Dean of the UW School of Dentistry, praised the graduates and expressed his hopes for an ongoing partnership.

“It is no surprise to us that Shoreline students are sought after by the School of Dentistry alumni and other dentists in Washington State, by DSO’s [Dental Support Organizations], and by community health centers,” said Mr. Ritter.

“The UW School of Dentistry is firmly committed to the Shoreline Dental Hygiene program. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Shoreline’s faculty and leadership for many years.”

The BASDH program was designed to prepare highly skilled healthcare professionals and to tackle the pressing need for qualified dental hygienists in Washington State, particularly in rural areas where access to dental care is limited.

The shortage of trained dental hygienists has been an ongoing challenge in Washington. According to research published by the University of Washington Center for Health Workforce Studies, dental hygienists have been in high demand for many years, and additional graduates are needed to fill long-term vacancies across the state.

To further address this need, Mr. Ritter discussed his hopes for continued growth of the program. “Ultimately, we hope to expand to 30 students in each class to help remedy the shortage of dental hygienists in Washington State.”

This first cohort of baccalaureate graduates will begin to address that shortage as they, in the words of 2026 graduate Emily Dietzel, “leave with a shared purpose: to preserve the health of our communities and improve the lives of the patients we serve.”

“This is an incredibly important milestone for Shoreline College as we award our first bachelor's degrees in dental hygiene,” shared Dr. Jack Kahn, president of Shoreline College.

“Our partnership with the University of Washington exemplifies our commitment to student success, bringing institutions together to create opportunities that are stronger and more impactful than any one of us could achieve alone. Congratulations to all the graduates and thank you to everyone past and present who helped turn this vision into reality.”

New cohorts begin the BASDH program every summer. The BASDH classes of 2027 and 2028 are both fully enrolled with 20 students each.

Week-long computing camps for youth at Shoreline College

Shoreline College is offering week-long computing camps for youth with Black Rocket on campus this summer starting next week! 

Camps will be held in the computer lab on campus with expert faculty instructors! Camps are 9:30am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 3:30pm with lunch covered if kids stay all day. 

Different topics are covered every week including: Minecraft Redstone Engineers, Minecraft Movie Makers, Minecraft Designers, Young Coders, YouTube Content Creators, and 3d Video Game design.

For generations, Peace Arch Park has served as a powerful symbol of connection, peace, and shared purpose across borders. 

For our third session understanding America at 250, Dr. Luther Adams - Free Man of Color, Associate Professor of Ethnic, Gender, and Labor Studies at the University of Washington in Tacoma, will begin by exploring the significance of the Paul Robeson Peace Arch Concerts which brought labor unions from the U.S. and Canada together in the 1950s.

Peace Arch Park, which is half in the United States and half in Canada, continues to be a place for building relationships between the two countries and today the group Peace, Love, and a Handshake encourages people to gather at the border and connect with one another. 

In the second part of the program, hear from Haidee Landry, Megan Hemminger and Jeff Smith about the grassroots gatherings at the park during this panel discussion.

In celebration of Taiwanese American Heritage Week, Shoreline College is pleased to share a special opportunity to attend “We Are Taiwan” / 〖看見台灣〗, an international cultural performance taking place at Shoreline College Theater on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 2:00pm.

This performance features artists from Taiwan who are traveling across the Pacific and through the West Coast to share Taiwan’s music, dance, culture, and stories. It is a meaningful opportunity to experience cultural exchange, celebrate heritage, and connect with the broader community here on our campus.

“We Are Taiwan” is an 80-minute production by the National Taiwan University of Sport Dance Company, one of Taiwan’s leading institutions for dance, performing arts, and arts education. 

Since 1996, the company has performed internationally, including in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Singapore, and was part of the creative and performance team for the opening ceremony of the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei.

This performance is more than a stage show—it is a journey of encounter. Through dance, music, singing, theater, and traditional arts, the performers bring Taiwan’s diverse cultural communities to life, including Minnan, Indigenous, Hakka, and new-generation artistic traditions. 

The program is designed to be interactive and welcoming, allowing audiences to experience culture not only as something to watch, but something to feel, share, and remember.

Woodland Park Players Summer Musical: Newsies! - auditions for youth ages 14-20 on 5-17-26 and 5-22-26

Step into the spotlight and be part of the inaugural summer production of Newsies! 

This exciting partnership between Shoreline College and Woodland Park Players invites performers ages 14–20 to join a high-energy, dance-driven musical inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899.

This inaugural production offers approximately 150 hours of rehearsal, performance, and musical theatre training throughout the summer in a summer stock-style environment focused on collaboration, storytelling, and ensemble-based performance.

Tuition is $1,100 for this 5-week program, encompassing approximately 150 hours of rigorous, hands-on training. Designed as an immersive experience, the program provides students with the opportunity to deepen their performance skills, engage in meaningful collaboration, and grow artistically, personally, and professionally.

Needs-based scholarships are available, and there is reduced tuition if family members want to volunteer!

Bringing Global Stories to the Shoreline Stage Through Community & Creativity

In just one year, TAPS Theater (Turkish American Performers of Seattle) has begun carving out a unique space in Shoreline’s arts scene - bringing people together through theater, improv, and storytelling. As part of the long-standing nonprofit TACAWA, TAPS was created to expand cultural connection through performing arts, offering both performances and accessible opportunities for the community to participate, learn, and create.

Q & A with TAPS Theater

Q: How long have you been in business?

A: TAPS Theater for 1 year - under our nonprofit, TACAWA, for 50 years.

Q: What inspired you to start?

A: TACAWA: Turkish American Association of Washington has STFF (Seattle Turkish) Film Festival, Turkfest, ICFF children's festival, a Turkish school, etc. but nothing on performing arts, so we started TAPS (Turkish American Performers of Seattle) to connect with the larger community through stage arts.

Q: What services do you provide for our community?

A: Theater plays, improv nights, free drama workshops, free emcee training for ICFF, sketch writing and acting.

Q: What do you love the most about Shoreline?

A: That the community is diverse and very welcoming/inclusive.

Q: Why are you based in Shoreline?

A: We work in collaboration with Shoreline Community College Theater.

Q: What’s one thing you wish your customers knew about you but never ask?

A: We are international! We don't only serve the Turkish community but are willing to connect with other cultures!

Q: What inspires you each day?

A: Smiling faces!

Q: What has been your proudest moment in business so far?

A: We were able to put one play, one improv night, one fundraiser, emcee training twice (3 months each) 18 free drama sessions, two appearances at festivals all in the first year of the foundation!

Q: How do you approach customer service, and what sets you apart?

A: We don’t have customers. We have participants and audience (open to everyone) because we're small and just beginning, it is hard to reach out to bigger community without a budget.

Q: What advice would you give to someone starting a business in Shoreline?

A: Connect to organizations like yours that help us promote our events.

Q: How does your business support or give back to the local community?

A: Most of our events are free. For this play, the tickets started from $13 up to $24. But cost is not a barrier, we will give away or offer 20% of all tickets.

Q: If you could change one thing about Shoreline, what would it be?

A: Safety. :)

Q: What future plans or goals do you have for your business?

A: To have an established address/office of our own.

I, Anatolia onstage at Shoreline College Theater May 10, 2026

Newly founded theater group, TAPS (Turkish American Performers of Seattle) under the nonprofit organization TACAWA (Turkish American Association of Washington) presents I, Anatolia in two performances on May 10, 2026 at 3pm and 7pm at the Shoreline College Theater, 16101 Greenwood Ave N.

Having started in January 2025, we have offered several free drama workshops, free Turkish improv shows, sketch performances at festivals, and a debut play, I Anatolia, last October. The play received such great reviews and our community-based cast enjoyed being on stage so much that we decided to have two more showings this spring.

About the play

I, Anatolia is the story of a land told through its people: Goddesses, queens, villagers, wives, kings, barbers. Their voices rise across thousands of years, weaving together myth, history, and everyday life.
