West Coast Health Alliance joint statement on federal Executive Order regarding childhood vaccines

The West Coast Health Alliance (WCHA) bases its recommendations for vaccinations on guidelines from trusted professional medical and health organizations representing millions of healthcare providers, reflecting a broad consensus on the safety and benefits of the recommended immunizations.

The Executive Order issued by the White House regarding childhood vaccine schedule recommendations does not change the WCHA’s position on evidenced-based vaccine guidance.

Measles cases continue to rise in the U.S.
because of the number of unvaccinated children.
Earlier this year, the WCHA endorsed the 2026 Recommended Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics

This evidence-based schedule reflects the most current science-based safety and benefits of immunizations that protect children and adolescents from infectious diseases and have saved millions of lives in the United States.

The WCHA also endorses the 2026 Maternal Immunization Schedule issued by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which recommends routine vaccination during pregnancy to protect pregnant people and infants from serious illness.

These immunizations are the most effective way to reduce the risk of infection and complications for both parent and child.

The WCHA believes that immunization guidance from trusted healthcare organizations should continue to serve as the foundation for routinely recommended immunizations and guide conversations between healthcare providers and families.

The WCHA also believes that coverage of vaccines, particularly through government programs, is important to allow choice. Our communities deserve vaccination recommendations based on the best available evidence, reviewed by experienced health and science professionals and access to those recommended vaccines.

If you have questions about childhood vaccines and best practices for your family, we encourage you to seek information from your child’s doctor. For more information about immunization guidance, please visit:

Providence at Home with Compassus offers Hospice Volunteer Training in October 2026

Tuesday, July 7, 2026

Hospice offers volunteers a chance to enhance a terminally ill patient’s life while enriching their own. They also provide much-needed support to families and caregivers.

Volunteers visit with patients, provide respite to caregivers, assist with errands, extend a loving presence, play games, or record life stories – to name just a few ways they serve.

We offer a hybrid training model which provides information about hospice philosophy and end-of-life education. Our training incorporates about 11 hours of self-paced online modules with a one day in-person training. The online modules must be done before attending the in-person training which is held at our administrative offices in Tukwila.

While the training will be held in Tukwila, volunteers are encouraged to serve in the geographic locations that make sense for them. Our agency serves all of King and Pierce Counties. We need volunteers in all parts of our service area.

All roles support our core values of compassion, integrity, excellence, teamwork, and innovation. Our team helps volunteers discover their strengths and guide them toward their best role.

Accepting applications: Puget Sound Volunteer Application

If you have any questions about hospice or our volunteer program, please call us at 206-299-6040 or email PugetSoundVolunteers@Compassus.com.

Connect to Nature for Health & Wellness through Forest Bathing

Monday, July 6, 2026

Feeling overwhelmed? Burnt out from chronic reactivity and doing-doing-doing?

The Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, is the simple and therapeutic act of spending time in a forest. This practice was developed in Japan during the 1980s and has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine.

Studies have shown that time in nature is an antidote for stress and anxiety: lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood.

This guided immersion experience moves us slowly through the park, offering a series of sensory invitations to simply be, in the moment. 16+

  • Dates: Saturday 7/18
  • Times: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Fee: $45.00

Yoga in the Gardens Thursday July 9, 2026 at 6pm
Dunn Gardens 13533 Northshire Rd NW, Seattle WA 98177

Suzette has been a yoga practitioner in Seattle for over 20 years. Shaped by her initial training in the Viniyoga tradition, Suzette’s hatha teaching style takes a more gentle and therapeutic approach.

Although she enjoys teaching all levels, her primary love is working with Women. Suzette's goal is to improve each person’s health and well being by moving in whatever way their body needs to move.

She does this by helping students value their uniqueness by finding optimal balance between effort and ease, and taking life one moment at a time.

Suzette is registered with Yoga Alliance at E-RYT 200, RYT 500 and RYPT 500 level.

This class is appropriate for all levels, so don’t worry if you can’t put your toe in your ear! Please bring your own yoga mat and any other items you need (towel, blocks, bolster, etc.)

UW Med: HPV causes nearly all cervical cancer. Vaccination and screening can prevent disease and save lives

Thursday, July 2, 2026

Cervical cancer is one of the few cancers that can often be prevented. Yet thousands of people are diagnosed each year with the disease, which is overwhelmingly linked to a common virus for which a vaccine exists.

“HPV (human papillomavirus) is an incredibly common virus that 80% of adults will have at some point in their lives,” said Dr. Linda Eckert, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Eckert’s comments come on the heels of a study published this month in the Lancet that found high HPV vaccination rates were associated with greatly reduced cervical cancer death rates. The researchers found that women ages 20 to 24 in England between 2020 and 2024 had high youth vaccination rates and no cervical cancer deaths.

“There were zero cases of cervical cancer in this age group, and the researchers were expecting to find 23 cases. So the vaccine was 100% effective against cervical cancer,” said Eckert.

Eli Lilly to acquire Bothell biotech in $1.5 billion bet on next-generation shingles vaccine

Monday, June 1, 2026

Eli Lilly has agreed to acquire Curevo Vaccine in a deal centered on a next-generation shingles vaccine aimed at improving tolerability and boosting vaccination rates among older adults.

The deal includes up to $1.5 billion in cash for the Bothell, WA-based biotech, consisting of an upfront payment and a contingent milestone payment.

At the center of the acquisition is amezosvatein, Cuervo’s Phase 3-ready vaccine targeting the virus that causes shingles.

The candidate is designed to compete with current leading vaccines, which are highly effective but can produce side effects that discourage some patients from completing vaccination.

Shingles affects roughly one in three adults in the U.S. over a lifetime and can lead to serious complications such as chronic nerve pain. While current vaccines are widely used, tolerability has been cited as a barrier to broader uptake.

The Cholesterol Code
Thursday, May 21, 2026 @ 7:00 PM
Hosted by Amely Wurmbrand in collaboration with
The Innis Arden Women’s Collective

The Cholesterol Code

A compelling documentary challenging conventional thinking on cholesterol and heart health

This thought-provoking film featuring Dave Feldman* explores the latest research, new theories, and important questions surrounding the long-standing cholesterol-heart disease hypothesis.

Could we be thinking about cholesterol all wrong?

The film takes a fresh look at LDL, heart disease risk, metabolic health, and the role of ketogenic and low-carbohydrate diets—offering perspectives that may completely change the way you think about cholesterol and cardiovascular health.

Whether you’re simply curious about your own health, interested in the science, or a physician looking to hear emerging viewpoints in this space, this is a fascinating and accessible evening for both lay people and medical professionals alike.

Following the screening, we’ll have a Q&A discussion featuring Dr. Shawn Baker* ( a physician featured in the film), Dr. Mahesh Mulumudi(a local interventional cardiologist), along with a panel of knowledgeable experts in ketogenic nutrition and metabolic health.

Event Details:
  • Thursday, May 21, 2026
  • 7:00 PM — Film Screening Begins
  • Followed by Q&A + Discussion
  •  free and open to everyone
Location: Innis Arden Clubhouse
1430 NW 188th St, Shoreline, WA 98177

Poison control specialists

Certified Specialists in Poison Information
By Diane Hettrick

When my child was a toddler, I had to call Poison Control so many times that I was afraid I'd be reported to Child Protective Services (CPS).

But we made it through and although I haven't called them for many years, I'm still grateful we have such a wonderful resource.

Even then I didn't realize how highly trained many of the responders were.

Congratulations to our three call center pharmacists who took their exams to become Certified Specialists in Poison Information! 🎉

Becoming a CSPI requires:
🤓 Over a year of training in treating poisonings (on top of training to be a Doctor of Pharmacy)
🫶 Helping at least 2,000 people who call the Poison Center with a potential poisoning
☎️ The next time you call, you might speak with one of these amazing individuals!!

Thousands receive free Dental, Vision and Medical Services supported by over 5,000 volunteers at 11th Annual Seattle/King County Clinic

Seattle King County Clinic April 23-27, 2026.

By Doug Cerretti
Photos by Doug Cerretti except as noted

The Seattle/King County Clinic returned for its 11th year April 23–26, 2026 at Seattle Center. Over four days, more than 3,100 people without adequate resources received free dental, vision, medical and social services, thanks to the dedication of over 5,000 clinical and non-clinical volunteers.

Sponsored by Seattle Center and Seattle Center Foundation, the Clinic is a collaborative effort among over 80 civic agencies, healthcare organizations, nonprofits, and businesses, serving as a healthcare lifeline for underserved individuals.

Dr Randy, Bonnie, Dr Chris and Dr Priscilla: Dental Triage Leaders.

Clinic offerings were extensive, including dental fillings and extractions, eye exams, prescription eyeglasses, primary care, behavioral health, immunizations, laboratory tests, mammograms, ultrasounds, x-rays, social work, and more.

Interpreter services were available for over 40 languages. Volunteers are the “heartbeat” of the Clinic. This year over 5000 volunteers answered the call to provided health care for those in need, a new record.

Dr Patrick, (“What brings you in today?”) and Henry talk to a patient with the aid of an interpreter in dental triage.

These volunteers include medical, dental and vision professionals in addition to volunteers in general support (non-medical training) ranging from interrupters, escorts, administrative to stocking the break room and those with basic knowledge of computers.

The only requirement for general support is a desire to help. This year I again volunteered at the dental X-ray computer station. What are some of the reason people volunteer?

Approximately 75 dental chairs for treatment in Exhibition Hall.

Carrie Stewart first volunteered in 2018 after learning about the Clinic from her employer, who was a sponsor, and heard from co-workers that it was a rewarding experience.

Carrie Stewart at the Dental X-ray Computer Station.

Carrie brings a background in systems engineering and computer skills with an attention to detail. She enjoys being part of a team that is performing such a vital service and has gotten to know many of the dental professionals she looks forward to seeing each year.

Additionally, Carrie can tell that the patients are so appreciative with smiles and thank yous for the services they receive. These are the reasons Carrie plans on returning next year.

Dental escort and waiting area manager Mike Washington.

Dr Chris Delecki has been practicing for 49 years and has focused on serving low income and Native Americans. Dr Chris is one of the leads in dental triage, the first stop in dental care. He comes back year after year to fulfill his philosophy of helping others.

The author with his X-ray gun. Buck Rogers has nothing on me.

I first learned of the Clinic from my good friend Carrie Stewart whom I have known for over 20 years. My first Clinic was in 2019 volunteering at the dental X-ray computer station.

I can reiterate everything Carrie said about what she gains from volunteering at the Clinic particularly the friendships I have made with the dental professionals. A friendship that demands a hug when I arrive the first day and another hug to say goodby on the last day.

We have been experiencing a crisis in our health care coverage for many years and we are fortunate to have Seattle/King County Clinic.

Interpreter services required for patient communication.

However, the Clinic only occurs four day a year. Something like the Clinic should be available every day of the year as I believe healthcare is a right, and not a privilege.

Mark your calendar: the next King County Clinic is April 29 to May 2, 2027. Consider volunteering.
