Looking Back: Highland Ice Arena

Three years ago today, I took these photos of a recently demolished Highland Ice Arena (18005 Aurora Ave N).

The arena closed after 60 years in business. High operating costs and owners who had no plans to continue were the reasons for the closure.

There were plans to develop the property into two seven-story buildings call Brea Apartments, with a total of 386 units. Although building permits were approved, progress has stalled in the actual development phase.
