Shoreline - Lake Forest Park arts organization announces new name and new logo

Tuesday, December 8, 2020

We are proud to announce our new name and logo!

After several years in the making, we are excited to announce our new name and logo: ShoreLake Arts!

We’ve heard people stumble over the lengthy name of our organization for decades, so we are deciding to make it easier for everyone!

We are refreshing our branding to bring a simpler name, an emblematic logo, and a fresh, modern flair to our look!

Our legal name will remain the same, but we will now be doing business as ShoreLake Arts.

Here is a statement about the logo design from our Publicity Manager, Kevin Sheen:

Kevin Sheen, Publicity Manager
ShoreLake Arts
"It's not everyday you get an opportunity to work on a rebrand. Especially when you get to incorporate a new name!
"Having been on the front-lines of writing, typing, and saying 'Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council' for the last 3+ years as the Publicity Manager, I can't tell you how excited I am to introduce all of you to our new name and logo."
"ShoreLake Arts is a marriage of sorts between the two cities we primarily serve (Shoreline and Lake Forest Park).
"But it also speaks to the beautiful surroundings that both cities have within their boundaries, and generally speaking here in the Pacific Northwest.
"As a lifelong Washingtonian I can attest to spending the majority of my adolescence around many shores and lakes!
"This is a detail we wanted to make sure to convey in the iconography. The waves are clearly depicted in yellow, with the shore in orange, both from our branded color scheme."
"I want to say thank you to everyone who helped make this refresh a reality. A ton of work went into this from the board, community members, designer, and staff. A special thanks to our designer, Gale Benning, and our Board for their leadership." - Kevin Sheen

The programs and services you have come to know and love are staying the same, now accompanied by the new logo and name!

You can continue to use the same address and emails you are used to, and you are welcome to write checks out to either the “Arts Council” or “ShoreLake Arts”. Also, we are proudly sticking with the distinctive yellow color in our logo (and not just because we have so much yellow paint and cloth!)

We also took time this year to refresh our website both to enable the logo change, and set us up for eCommerce and virtual events.

This was a multi-year process with much-appreciated community input. Thank you to all who provided us with their feedback and suggestions!

Call for Latinx Artists for the 2020 Dia de Muertos Virtual Art Show

Tuesday, October 13, 2020

Call for Latinx Artists
2020 Dia de Muertos Virtual Art Show

Deadline: October 23

The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council is currently accepting submissions for the Dia de Muertos virtual art show. A group art exhibition by emerging and established latinx artists working in a variety of media to explore aspects of Hispanic Culture.

We’re excited to present another Dia de Muertos event this year. This year things are a little different as we can't gather in a physical space - so we are moving this to a virtual exhibition where you can directly sell the work.

Artwork will be showcased online in our Gallery Online Shop. The artwork will be included in the main page (as shown in this link), and also have it's own space in the second menu (like the 'Artist Made Face Masks').

  • Artwork must be original
  • Multiple entries per artist will be accepted
  • Accepting all 2D and 3D media
  • Not-for-sale works accepted - it will just appear on the online shop as 'sold'.

Should the artwork sell, you would need to drop the artwork off at the Gallery at Town Center, or we will coordinate with you to arrange shipping (shipping covered by the buyer).

If work is sold through the shop, we would take a small 10% commission to help cover administration and processing costs.

More information about the Dia de Muertos event can be found on the event page.

Thanks to our sponsors and partners! Jack Malek Broker and Realtor, City of Shoreline, the City of Lake Forest Park, and the Shoreline Community College.

October artists at The Gallery at Town Center: Odette Allen and Peggy Curtis

Odette Allen and Peggy Curtis

Open Now - November 14, 2020

The Gallery at Town Center is exhibiting a selection of works by Acrylic Artist Odette Allen and Photographer Peggy Curtis. See these works and the creations of over 90 other local artists during gallery hours: Wednesday – Saturday, Noon to 5pm. Thank you for shopping small and supporting the arts in our community!

Odette Allen

I am a painter and muralist living in Seattle, WA. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cornish College of the Arts in 2007, and a Masters in History and Archives from Western Washington University in 2014.

My work reflects my educational background with color focused, abstract forms, and references to historic and current social justice issues. Art has the amazing ability to communicate ideas and feelings that inspire others, and I want to use this to address issues like sexism, racism, or environmental exploitation. These are pressing issues that concern me deeply, and art enables me to communicate about them in meaningful ways.

My art practice incorporates many mediums, but my primary focus is painting. My work is made using acrylic paints on mounted birch panels. Using many isolated layers of acrylics, I am able to build up colors and enhance textures, creating luminous colors that feel viscerally satisfying. My images evolve organically, starting as abstract color fields and slowly focusing into forms as I add shapes or elements. I work on many pieces at once, all exploring a specific theme. My work at present is inspired by traditional southern cooking and foodways, the history of black agriculture, and the use of traditional black cooking as a foundation for Black identity and activism.

Peggy Curtis

Peggy Olafson Curtis was born in Seattle, USA and grew up in nearby regions during the turbulent Sixties.

Her love of photography began with a film camera and a high school course in photography. Her artistic inspiration came a few years later during a two-year residence in Japan. There she became immersed in the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, which holds that there is beauty in all states of being, including decay.

Now she loses herself in junkyards in search of an interesting patina on a rusting Studebaker or a pleasing arrangement of shape and color in the broken paint. She wants an image that somehow transcends the literal in the viewer’s imagination, suggesting a mood, a greater mystery, a timelessness. She sees rivers, ponds, and maybe a forest of healing trees in the leave behinds of time, use, and nature.

The City of Shoreline and the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council have partnered again this year to bring you the 16th Annual Shoreline Holiday Crafts Market. This time as the Underground Holiday Market located at Shoreline City Hall!

New Location

Now at the Shoreline City Hall Covered Parking Lot. We look forward to using this modern covered parking space, and giving it some holiday cheer. It's also a big bonus that it's covered so if it rains in our beloved rainy state, we all stay nice and dry!

COVID-19

There are two extremely wide lanes in the underground carpark. With this large space to work with, we aim to provide a safe socially distant shopping experience with COVID-19. Details on social distancing methods will be available closer to the event and we will work with current guidelines to ensure our communities safety. Measures such as requiring masks, social distance signs, hand sanitizing stations, one way walking traffic around the carpark for visitors, appropriate spacing between stalls - just to mention a few. We will ensure to keep up with state guidelines, and will update these details by November 1st.

Please note: if this market does not happen due to COVID-19 restrictions, booth fees will be fully refunded.

How to apply

Please fill out the application form online completely. You may include up to 3 images of work in all categories you wish to sell, the price range of the items, and a photo of your booth set-up if you have one. Include a brief description of your work. Color copies, drawings, or whatever best represents your work may be submitted in place of photos. Your work will be judged on this information only.

Submit your application by Monday, August 31st, 2020.

All items for sale must be handcrafted by the applying artist. No imported, manufactured/kit jewelry, or commercially prepared merchandise will be accepted.

Confirmation email sent to Artists: Tuesday, September 15th, 2020

Artist made masks for sale… at The Gallery at LFP Town Center

Friday, July 10, 2020

The Gallery at Town Center is open

Story and photos by Donna Hawkey

The Gallery at Town Center received a new shipment of vibrant masks created by local artists. There are two styles, one with rings around the ears and the other has back ties.

Tara came back for a second mask

Tara bought a mask last week and returned for another one. She said this is her “favorite place to shop due to outstanding customer service, too.”

A vast assortment of mask patterns available now at The Gallery.

This mask could be a favorite for a dog lover. (I might have to go back for it.)

This assortment has both rings and back ties and includes a pocket for a filter, too.

The Gallery at Town Center, sponsored by the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council, is open again for business. The store is located on the lower level of the LFP Town Center right across from The Chocolate Man, another favorite stop for many.
