Extended bus-only lane closure hours in Kenmore

Lane closures on SR522 start September 8, 2026

Starting Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Sound Transit will extend the eastbound and westbound bus-only lane daytime closure hours on SR 522 (NE Bothell Way) between 61st Ave NE and 80th Ave NE. 

Crews will work in the bus-only lanes from 6am to 3pm Mondays through Thursdays and 9am to 3pm on Fridays. 

The extended bus-only lane closure hours will allow crews to shift more nighttime work to the daytime and reduce the number of nighttime work shifts. 

Traffic patterns will change during construction. Buses will merge into general-purpose traffic lanes to bypass the work. Temporary bus stops will remain accessible. Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians should follow posted signs and plan for extra travel time.

Right turns in and out of businesses and residences on SR 522 (NE Bothell Way) between 61st Ave NE and 80th Ave NE will remain available. All businesses and residences will remain open and accessible.

Road improvements are key to ensuring the Stride S3 buses can move through the route more quickly. This work will allow Sound Transit to deliver fast, frequent, and reliable rapid transit service along S3.
