Olympic Ballet Theatre announces 2026/27 Performance Season

EDMONDS, WA — Olympic Ballet Theatre’s 2026/27 season celebrates the many facets of ballet, from timeless classics to works new to OBT’s stage.
The season opens in December with the magic of The Nutcracker, followed by February’s Debuts, featuring Kent Stowell’s Delicate Balance and a world premiere by Makino Hayashi.
In April, Spring Rep presents excerpts from Raymonda, and the season culminates in May with the beloved full-length classic The Sleeping Beauty. This season, OBT invites audiences to honor ballet’s timeless traditions while embracing new perspectives and experiencing the artistry of ballet in all its many forms.
The Nutcracker
Olympic Ballet Theatre’s 2026/27 season begins with its annual production of The Nutcracker, bringing Clara’s magical journey to life with Tchaikovsky’s beloved score and choreography by OBT Artistic Directors Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev.

Olympic Ballet Theatre’s 2026/27 season begins with its annual production of The Nutcracker, bringing Clara’s magical journey to life with Tchaikovsky’s beloved score and choreography by OBT Artistic Directors Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev.

Abridged School & Group Morning Matinees
OBT offers abridged performances of The Nutcracker designed for schools, youth groups, and audiences of all ages. Tickets are $12 per person for groups of 20 or more, and groups do not need to be affiliated with a school to attend.
Each performance includes an “Introduction to the Magic of Theatre” intermission segment, giving audience members a behind-the-scenes look at the scenery, lighting, costumes, and props that bring a ballet production to life. Performances run approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
Abridged matinee performances:
Every year, Olympic Ballet Theatre’s Debuts introduces works new to OBT’s stage, offering audiences a fresh perspective on a range of choreographic voices.
This season’s program pairs Kent Stowell’s Delicate Balance (1988), set to Frédéric Chopin’s Grand Fantasy on Polish Airs, Op. 13, with a world premiere by choreographer Makino Hayashi. Together, the works showcase contrasting choreographic perspectives and highlight the range and vitality of ballet today.
Spring Rep
OBT’s Spring Rep program brings audiences excerpts from Raymonda, one of the great classical ballets of the 19th century. Set to the music of Alexander Glazunov and originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, Raymonda premiered at the Imperial Ballet in 1898. OBT’s production features choreography by Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev after Petipa, offering audiences the opportunity to experience the grandeur, intricate technique, and celebrated choreography of this classical work.
The Sleeping Beauty
The season culminates with The Sleeping Beauty, a cornerstone of the classical ballet repertoire. Set to Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, this timeless fairy tale features the lavish sets, costumes, and grand choreography audiences have come to expect from this beloved classic. OBT’s production features choreography by Oleg Gorboulev and Mara Vinson after Marius Petipa, whose original choreography has defined the ballet for generations.
