Young Musicians, Big Traditions: Northwest Junior Pipe Band Comes to Shoreline Rotary October 7, 2026

Shoreline Rotary is pleased to welcome John Garlid and Kevin Auld for a presentation about the Northwest Junior Pipe Band (NWJPB), Washington State’s only competitive youth Scottish bagpipe and drum band.

Founded in 1995, the nonprofit organization provides young people ages 8 to 18 with musical education while developing skills that extend well beyond piping and drumming. Through rigorous training, performance, and competition, members learn teamwork, discipline, leadership, and what it means to be part of something larger than themselves.

John and Kevin will introduce us to this remarkable regional organization, including how young musicians learn the traditions of Scottish piping and drumming, prepare for competition, and serve their communities through performance. We’ll also hear about the mentorship behind the music and how participation helps young people develop skills and confidence they can carry throughout their lives.

This is another great program to invite a friend to. Think of someone interested in music, Scottish heritage, youth development, education, mentoring, or simply discovering interesting organizations doing good work in our region. A Rotary gathering is much more fun when we bring someone new into the conversation.
