Raising lots of money for the Aug. 6 primary didn’t translate into votes.

It didn’t help Shoreline city council candidate Ginny Scantlebury, who raised and spent more money than any other candidate but finished third in the primary. Scantlebury reported raising $29,300 and spending $22,500 but won only 17.6 percent of the votes.

King County officials certified results of the primary Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Candidate David Chen led the three-way contest for the only Shoreline council position on the primary ballot. He had 49.5 percent of the primary votes to 32.5 percent for incumbent Councilwoman Doris McConnell and 17.6 percent for Scantlebury.

Chen has raised $18,500 and spent $17,000. McConnell has raised $6,400 and spent $7,900.

Chen and McConnell will meet on the Nov. 5 general-election ballot.

Two other Shoreline council positions will also appear on the November ballot. Neither appeared on the primary ballot because each had only two candidates.
