Caball Fuerto by Jesse Swickard

On Thursday  July 24 nine new sculptures were added in the City Hall Park between Aurora Ave and Midvale on the Interurban Trail.

Vuelo De Aves by Jesse Swickard

Two of the works are by Jesse Swickard who lives near Portland, Oregon in the town of Sherwood. Swickard creates large sculptures for cities all around the Northwest.

It took a crew of three and a piece of equipment
to install the sculptures

The sculptures are a horse and an eagle, which were made for this show. Both are for sale by the artist.

The artist, left, personally oversees the installation

The horse is made of stainless steel and is Caball Fuerto - Spanish for Strong Horse. The bird sculpture is called Vuelo De Aves.

Swickard says, "Nature is very much in our lives. In this display I am trying to show this and teach people not to forget about the impact we have on nature."

I have some questions:
1. Isn't this small area becoming overwhelmed by the number of pieces in it? It's beginning to feel kinda junky instead of honoring work of the art and artists.

2. Does anyone else feel it shameful the city is so proudly announcing new art pieces while it simultaneously "displays" a number on dead and dying trees? Trees are living art and are also taxpayer investments. It makes really angry to see the city ignore their responsibility to care for those trees for many reasons; they purchased them with tax dollars, they are responsible to care for them and aren't, they look bad, and they make the inanimate look bad too!.
