Prep football: Shorewood shuts out Mountlake Terrace in convincing 27-0 win

Monday, September 28, 2026

Terrace sophomore Jasiah Hatfield (5) attempts to get past Shorewood sophomore Kai Peddicord (88) during a first-quarter interception return.

Story & photo by Doug Petrowski

For the 2026 Mountlake Terrace Hawks, duplicating a perfect run through the Wesco League South Conference — as the team had done last season — didn’t seem out of the question. The team is loaded with key returnees from the 2025 squad and this year’s group had racked up 107 points in their first three outings, averaging almost 38 points per game during their 3-0 start.

But Hawk hopes for going undefeated in league conference play this year were dashed on Friday — and dashed convincingly by a stout Shorewood Stormrays squad.

The Stormrays ran through, around and over the Hawks, notching a 27-0 win at Shoreline Stadium in the Wesco League South Conference opener for both teams.

The loss was the worst for the Hawks since a 40-0 thumping by Sedro-Woolley on Nov. 1, 2024.

Shorewood dominated on the scoreboard and on the stat sheet, running up nearly 300 yards in total offense while holding Terrace to 180 total yards. The Stormrays tallied 21 first downs in the game to the Hawks’ 10.

“It was a weird night; weird things happening all over the place,” said Terrace Coach Archie Malloy.

Shorewood’s final score of the game came early in the fourth quarter on a Woodruff 3-yard TD run. The two alternating quarterback system employed by the Stormrays was effective as Woodruff and Vanee played a part in all four Shorewood scores — Woodruff with two touchdown runs and a TD pass completion, and Vanee with a TD toss.

For the Hawks, the loss was the first in Wesco League South Conference play since Oct. 4, 2024 — a 48-7 defeat to Monroe — and a reminder that the conference can still be a challenge, Malloy noted.

“It’s Wesco South football; everyone in this league is tough,” he said. “We don’t doubt anybody and we never underestimate anybody. (Shorewood’s a) big, tough, physical team. You know what, you tip your hat to them and you go back to the drawing board.”

Mountlake Terrace (0-1 in 3A Wesco League South Conference play, 3-1 overall) will head back to Shoreline Stadium for their next game, a Friday, Oct. 1 matchup against the surprising Shorecrest Scots. The Scots have opened their season 3-1 overall, 1-0 in Wesco League South Conference play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Shorewood (1-0 in 3A Wesco League South Conference play, 3-1 overall) will face the undefeated Meadowdale Mavericks in their next action in a game for at least a share of first place in the conference standings. The Stormrays and Mavericks will meet at Edmonds Stadium on Friday, kicking off at 8 p.m.

Prep Football: Mountlake Terrace at Shorewood, Sept. 25
Mountlake Terrace 0 0 0 0 – 0
Shorewood 6 15 0 6 – 27

  • 2:09 – Julien Woodruff (Shorewood) 40-yard TD pass to Bradie Mittelstadt; Kyson Vanee PAT kick no good
2nd quarter scoring:
  • 10:11 – Julien Woodruff (Shorewood) 1-yard TD run; 2-point conversion pass good
  • 00:16 – Kyson Vanee (Shorewood) 9-yard TD pass to Bradie Mittelstadt; Kyson Vanee PAT kick good
4th quarter scoring:
  • 9:43 – Julien Woodruff (Shorewood) 3-yard TD run; Kyson Vanee PAT kick blocked
Records:
  • Mountlake Terrace 0-1 in 3A Wesco League South Conference, 3-1 overall;
  • Shorewood 1-0 in 3A Wesco League South Conference, 3-1 overall
Mountlake Terrace next game: versus Shorecrest; Friday, Oct. 2; 7 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium

Shorewood next game: versus Meadowdale; Friday, Oct. 2; 8 p.m. at Edmonds Stadium (Edmonds-Woodway High School)

Seahawks Parade: WSDOT says TAKE TRANSIT

Tuesday, February 10, 2026

BEEP BEEP THE HAWKS ARE BACK IN SEATTLE. And so is everyone else, as we're hearing somewhere around 750,000 people may come to Seattle for Wednesday's Seahawks Victory Parade.

Which is GREAT to celebrate our SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS, but not so great for getting anywhere in Seattle quickly.

We strongly recommend taking transit tomorrow - which could be ferry, bus, or train depending on where you're coming from. Here are some accounts that can help you get where you're going:

A few other notes:
  • The two lane reduction of northbound I-5 over the Ship Canal Bridge remains in place. Picking up that work zone requires a two-day full closure of I-5, and then another two-day full closure of I-5 to set it back up again. Express lanes will continue to run northbound 24/7
  • No additional construction work is planned for the downtown corridor that would impact the parade.
  • Any traffic holds, such as the brief ramp restrictions at Edgar Martinez Drive while the procession moves to the parade route, will be temporary.
  • If your workplace has alternate locations or flexible schedules, consider using them. It's gonna be BUSY downtown, in case the map didn't make that clear.
Check out this great blog from King County Metro that summarizes all of your transit options: Transit options for the Seahawks parade

Due to street closures, massive crowds on the street, and expected gridlock, bus routes heading into downtown Seattle from the north plan to drop off riders at Queen Anne and Mercer Street on the north end of town.

Link 1 Line trains will run.

Seahawks win - parade on Wednesday

Monday, February 9, 2026

By Diane Hettrick

For those of you wondering about the explosions in your neighborhood Sunday evening - the Seahawks won the Super Bowl.

That's a big deal around here and particularly sweet considering our last Super Bowl matchup against the Patriots (don't ask - celebrate today's victory).

The parade is scheduled for Wednesday at 11am along 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle. A ceremony formally presenting the Vince Lombardi Trophy will be held at Lumin Field - and livestreamed on KING 5. The parade will leave from there, travel the length of 4th Ave and end at Seattle Center.

Side note: police ask fans please not to climb on the pergola in Pioneer Square. It's fragile and very expensive to repair. The parade route avoids 1st Ave but half a million people are expected for the parade and there may be some overflow.

Running Back Kenneth Walker III was named the Super Bowl LX MVP.

Update: Added start time for parade

Sen. Cantwell - Super Bowl bets and Seahawks flag at the South Pole

Sen. Cantwell raised a Seahawks flag at the South Pole, which she visited last month as part of a congressional delegation.

Sen. Maria Cantwell joined MSNOW’s “Morning Joe” on Thursday and made a bet with host and Patriots fan Jonathan Lemire: If the Seahawks win on Sunday, she gets to interview him. Video of that exchange is HERE.

And on Wednesday, Sen. Cantwell and Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA) sealed a bet on the outcome of Super Bowl LX.

Sen. Cantwell tweeted: "It's on. @Seahawks and 12s are going to deliver. @SenMarkey I'll bet you seafood for seafood and beer for beer that we'll be champs -- salmon for lobster, and Rainier for Sam Adams."

Sen. Markey replied: “Game on @SenatorCantwell. Massachusetts and Washington may be connected by I-90, but the road to Super Bowl glory runs from Foxborough to Santa Clara. In Drake ‘Drake Maye’ Maye and the @Patriots We Trust.”

Marriott Bonvoy hosts Puppy Bowl Pup Rally adoption event in Seattle

Dogs have a rare superpower: With their wagging tails, goofy grins, and endless joy, they spark connection and bring people together. With football’s biggest weekend here, Marriott Bonvoy® is enlisting everyone’s favorite furry friends to change the game — calling a timeout on competition and encouraging divided fan bases to share moments of joy.

As the Official Hospitality Partner of Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XXII, Marriott Bonvoy is leaning into that unifying power with Pup Rally pet adoption events designed to turn competitive tension into connection.

The events will take place at pet‑friendly hotels in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio: Aloft Boston Seaport District in Boston, Massachusetts, and Residence Inn by Marriott Seattle Downtown/Lake Union in Seattle, Washington, the hometowns of the two teams competing in the Big Game.

On February 8, 2026, from 11:00am to 1:00pm, Pup Rally invites fans on both sides of the rivalry to come together for something bigger than the score.

Travelers and locals alike can meet adoptable dogs from the Everett shelter, enjoy complimentary pet treats and light bites, receive Marriott Bonvoy-branded pet merchandise, and watch a live broadcast of Puppy Bowl XXII.

By pairing one of football weekend’s most beloved traditions — pet adoption — with a neutral, welcoming space, Marriott Bonvoy is creating a shared experience where allegiance fades and joy takes center field.
