| August 2024 - the start of the pilot program |
At the Shoreline city council meeting on Monday, October 5, 2026, staff presented a summary of the two year pilot program. View staff summary here
Currently speed limits are 15 mph for e-scooters and 20 mph for e-bikes. According to city regulations, electric devices are prohibited on streets posted above 35 mph, except in a designated bike lane; and, prohibited on sidewalks not designated as multipurpose paths.
No one under 13 may operate a motorized device on city streets.
Staff informed Council that improper device parking remains a challenge.
After the staff presentation, Council discussed the Lime e-scooter and e-bike ride program. Council is overall in favor of continuing this program, confirming that it provides transportation to and from the light rail stations and to destinations within Shoreline and is a benefit to riders.
Councilmembers made suggestions for resolving some of the issues, included lowering the speed on e-scooters which staff said is possible, education about safety and appropriate parking, enforcement of regulations, and increasing bike lanes. Staff will consider these suggestions and will return to Council in 2027 with improvements to the program based on Council responses.
Mayor Robertson closed the discussion, encouraging proper ridership in Shoreline and asking staff how can this program work better?
