Japanese Anemone or Wind Flower

A sure sign that summer is winding down and fall will soon begin is when Japanese Anemone are in bloom. They often begin flowering in August in my shady Northwest garden, a month or more before the Autumn equinox.

This variety, 'September Charm,' initially produces light pink flowers that fade to a paler silvery pink as the season progresses.

Come fall when much of the garden has begun to look tired and worn Japanese Anemone are going strong. They add a touch of whimsy as they bob in the wind on wiry 3 foot tall stems. They are a fun addition to most any garden!
