Power outage from failed equipment October 9, 2026

An insulator failed and knocked out power to 6,000 City Light customers between I-5 and Lake Washington, and Lake City to 168th in the early hours of Friday, October 9, 2026.

The school district cancelled classes for Shorecrest High School, Kellogg Middle School, and Briarcrest and Ridgecrest elementaries and started the rest of the schools two hours late.

The outage affected the transportation dispatch center, the central kitchen and warehouse in Hamlin Park.

Power was restored after 10am.

Seattle Schools had previously scheduled a professional development day and classes were not held across the district.
