Senior Center Thrift Shop find makes a happy child - half a world away

Thursday, February 2, 2012

One never knows just how far-reaching an act of kindness can go.

Several months ago, a participant at the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Center received a special request from some friends. They are missionaries in Kosvo and they have a daughter who just turned seven years old. Little Nikol wanted a princess costume.

As it turned out, the perfect costume was found at the senior center Thrift Shop. The costume and other treats were bundled up and sent off in hopes of getting to the country before the holidays. Of course, that didn't happen, but this special package did arrive just in time for this little girl's seventh birthday! The grateful parents sent a photo of a very happy birthday girl ... and that was sent via e-mail, so got here a lot quicker than their package!

You could find a treasure at the Senior Center Thrift Shop, too! Shop hours are 9:30AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. Thrift Shop Volunteer Manager, Judith Enich, is looking for volunteers at this time, as well as customers. Please call the center on Mondays or Fridays and ask for Judith to see if this is a good volunteer fit for you: 206-365-1536. The Thrift Shop is a major fundraiser for the senior center.

Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Center is located at 18560 1st AVE NE #1, Shoreline, and is part of the Shoreline Center campus. Phone: 206-365-1536.
