Floresca of Shorewood, Bolstad of Shorecrest head for regional wrestling meet Saturday as Northwest District 3A champions, Escalona of Shorecrest as District runner-up

Mathew Floresca of Shorewood and Ian Bolstad of Shorecrest head for a regional wrestling meet Saturday at Skyline High School in the Issaquah School District, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11 after winning individual District championships at the Northwest District 3A tournament in Oak Harbor Feb 3-4 with Jesus Escalona headed for regionals as District runner-up.

The regional tournament includes wrestlers from the Kingco Conference 3A division, the Northwest Conference 3A division and the Western Conference 3A division. It is one of four 3A regional tournaments that qualify wrestlers for the State championships Feb. 17-18 at the Tacoma Dome.

Shorecrest placed ninth in the District team scoring with Shorewood 11th among the 12 District 3A teams, nine from Wesco, three from the Northwest Conference.

Floresca won the District championship at 120 pounds, with Bolstad winning at 285 pounds and Escalona placing second at 113 pounds.

Other qualifiers for the regional meet include Alex Lee of Shorewood at 112 pounds, David Gillespie of Shorecrest at 195,

In District championship matches, Bolstad pinned his opponent from team champion Sedro-Woolley, Floresca won by decision over an opponent from Ferndale, and Escalona lost by decision to an opponent from Sedro-Woolley.

Shorecrest had finished its dual-meet season Jan. 27 with a 3-8 record (2-7 Wesco 3A) after a 44-34 home loss to Lynnwood. Shorewood had a 6-7(3-6) record).
