Shorecrest girls top Shorewood 58-42 Thursday as both teams headed into final regular-season games Friday, District tournament next week

The Shorecrest girls’ basketball team defeated Shorewood 58-42 Thursday as both teams faced their final regular-season games Friday before starting District tournament play next week.

Shorecrest took a 12-3 Western Conference 3A division record (15-4 overall) into a home game with Glacier Peak, which was tied with the Scots for second place in the division. The game was postponed from Jan. 17. The Scots had won at Glacier Peak, 43-41, Jan. 6.

Shorewood took a 7-8 Wesco 3A record (8-11 overall) into a game at Mountlake Terrace that also was rescheduled from Jan. 17. Shorewood had won a home game from Mountlake Terrace, 53-36, Dec. 12.

Both teams open Northwest District 3A tournament play Thursday, Feb. 9. Shorecrest will play its first-round game at home either as the Wesco No. 2 team against Wesco No. 5 Everett or as the Wesco No. 3 team against the Northwest Conference No. 2 team. In Shorecrest’s 58-42 home victory over Shorewood, Shorecrest led 16-15 after the first quarter, 33-25 at halftime and 43-37 after three quarters before breaking the game open in the final period, Senior Bri Lasconia led Shorecrest with 26 points followed by sophomore Onyie Chibuogwu with 10, Masha Shtikel led Shorewood with 16,

Going into the Friday game with Glacier Peak, Lasconia had scored 45 points in two games this week.

The Shorecrest junior varsity defeated the Shorewood JVs Thursday, 38-37.
