Work party at Grace Cole Nature Park Saturday, Feb 11

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

Join the Stewardship Foundation for a Grace Cole Nature Park Work Party on Saturday, February 11th, from 9am - noon.

The days are getting noticeably longer. A few sunny days now, and buds are popping out.

If it will be dry enough to get up the hill, volunteers will plant some more sword fern on the bank which was cleared of ivy last Summer and Fall. Small orange flags will mark the trail from the road, up the hill to the planting area. Look for the flagged trail a few yards north of the boardwalk.

Other tasks needing attention are pulling and digging blackberry vines and working on removing more ivy. The roots of blackberries come out easily when the ground is wet, if they are not too extensive. Some require digging, as we want to get all the root to prevent re-growth.

Location: Grace Cole Nature Park, 30th Ave NE and NE 165th Street. Go south on 28th from NE 178th in Lake Forest Park and drive about 1/2 mile until just before the road turns. You'll see Grace Cole Nature Park on your right.
