Shorewood girls open tournament play Thursday after 56-45 victory at Mountlake Terrace Friday

The Shorewood girls’ basketball team opens Northwest District 3A tournament play Thursday at Wesco 3A champion Lynnwood after finishing the regular season with a 56-45 victory at Mountlake Terrace Friday. The game had been postponed from Jan. 17.

Shorewood (6-6 Wesco 3A, 9-11 overall) goes into the tournament as the No. 6 Western Conference 3A team. The top three Wesco 3A teams and No. 1 Northwest Conference 3A team play their first-round games at home, while the Nos. 4-6 Wesco 3A teams and the No. 2 Northwest Conference 3A teams open on the road.

Shorewood and Lynnwood (14-2, 16-4), meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lynnwood High School. The tournament continues Feb. 11, 15, 18 and 21.

In Shorewood’s 56-45 victory over Mountlake Terrace, the Thunderbirds led 14-13 after the first quarter but trailed 24-23 at halftime and 36-35 after three quarters before outscoring the Hawks 21-9 in the final period for the 11-point victory. Kassie Rasmussen led Shorewood with 18 points, followed by Masha Shtikel with 15. 

Shtikel leads the Thunderbirds in season scoring with 296 points in 20 games for an average of 14.8 points per game.
