Shorewood girls fall to losers’ bracket with 60-47 overtime first-round tournament loss to top-seeded Lynnwood Thursday

The Shorewood girls’ basketball team fell to the losers’ bracket of the Northwest District 3A tournament with an overtime 60-47 first-round loss to Western Conference 3A division champion Lynnwood Thursday at Lynnwood High School.

Shorewood takes a 9-12 record into an elimination game Saturday at Ferndale (12-9), which lost to Glacier Peak Thursday.

Shorewood and Ferndale meet at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ferndale High School. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament. The winner must win three games Feb. 15, 18 and 21 to qualify for State competition.

In Shorewood’s 60-47 loss to Lynnwood, the game was tied 33-33 after three quarters and 47-47 after regulation play, but the Royals outscored the Thunderbirds 13-0 in the overtime period. The T-birds led 14-12 after the first quarter and fell behind, 29-21, at halftime before tying the game in the third quarter and keeping the game tied in the fourth quarter, only to be shut out in the overtime period, Masha Shtikel led Shorewood with 17 points.

Through 21 games, Shtikel has 313 points for an average of 14.9 points per game.
