Shorecrest girls top Shorewood 67-54 in Saturday Hoopapalooza; Scots move to top of Wesco 3A

The Shorecrest girls’ basketball team defeated Shorewood 67-54 as part of the all-day Hoopapalooza III Saturday at Shorewood.

Shorecrest’s victory, along with Glacier Peak’s loss to fourth-place Everett, moved the Scots to the top of/the Western Conference 3A standings.

Shorecrest was to take its first-place 9-1 Western Conference 3A division record (12-2 overall) into a Monday home game with second-place Glacier Peak (9-2 Wesco 3A, 12-3 overall after a loss to Everett Saturday), a team that the Scots defeated Jan. 6. The game has been postponed to Feb. 3. Instead, the Scots will next play Marysville-Getchell at home Wednesday at 7:15 p.m., with junior varsity teams from the two schools meeting at 5:40. They play road games at Meadowdale on Friday, and at Lynnwood on Saturday.

Shorewood takes a 4-5 Wesco 3A record (5-8 overall) into a home game with last-place Marysville-Getchell (0-11, 0-15) Monday at 7:15 p.m., with junior varsity teams from the two schools meeting at 5:40 and “C” teams playing at 3:45,

In Shorecrest’s 67-54 victory over Shorewood Saturday, Shorecrest led 16-10 after the first quarter, 33-17 at halftime and 51-29 after three quarters before holding off the Thunderbirds in the final period. Onyie Chibuogwu led Shorecrest with 25 points, followed by Bri Lasconia with 18 and Mickey Greenburg with 11. Masha Shtikel led Shorewood with 15 points, followed by Lauren Thompson with 12. The Shorewood junior varsity team (5-4, 6-7) defeated Shorecrest (4-6, 6-7), 31-30.

For the season, Lasconia leads Shorecrest with 237 points in 14 games for an average of 16.9 points per game, and Shtikel leads Shorewood with 185 points in 13 games for an average of 14.2 points per game.
