Saturday, October 15, 2011

The Shorewood boys’ tennis team clinched the Wesco 3A dual-meet championship with victories over Marysville-Getchell Wednesday, Meadowdale Thursday and Everett Friday.

The Thunderbirds tried to complete an undefeated season in a meeting with Lynnwood Saturday at Shoreview Park.

The Wednesday-Thursday-Friday-Saturday schedule resulted from postponements due to rain Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8, and Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10 and 11.

The Thunderbirds next turn their attention to the Wesco 3A tournament Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 18-20 at Jackson High School in Mill Creek. The top six singles players and top six doubles teams in the Wesco 3A tournament qualify for the Northwest District 3A tournament the following week in Mount Vernon.

Shorewood improved its record to 15-0 Friday with a 7-0 home victory over Everett in a match postponed from Monday. The loss left Everett with an 8-7 record.

Shorewood coach Arnie Moreno sent this report:

Shorewood came within one match of a perfect season after defeating Everett 7-0. The Thunderbirds attempt to complete a rare undefeated season in their meeting with Lynnwood Saturday in the last match of the season. The T-Bird boys last undefeated season was in 2002-03.
