The program began in August 2024 as a two year pilot program. It kicked off with 200 devices, including 50 bikes, operated by Lime (maximum number of devices capped at 400).
New seated scooters called Gliders were added to the fleet in 2025. Currently, up to a maximum of 1,000 scooters and bikes are allowed in the City.
The City will reevaluate the pilot program and make adjustments by the end of the pilot in summer 2026.
Riders must be 18 years or older. Helmets are strongly encouraged by Lime and the City. You can get a 10% discount by verifying that you are wearing a helmet through the Lime app.
Lime is managing all operations including device deployment, maintenance, recovery/rebalancing, and responses to community reports.
Report all issues to Lime at:
- email: Support@li.me
- phone: 1-888-546-3345
- web: help.li.me
Starting June 2026, end a Lime bike or scooter trip at Link light rail stations in Shoreline and get an automatic discount of up to $7 off your ride!

I once tried to take a bite out of a Lime. It made my teeth hurt!
Given the increase in scooter and e-bike injuries (Harborview calls it an epidemic.), coupled with the fact that anyone of any age with a cell phone can access them and that helmets are only "suggested" makes me hope the city will see there's no incentive to continue the program with Lime.
We live on arterial, so these go by our house frequently. The age limit doesn't seem to apply, and it's common to see two kids on one glider, traveling downhill at speed. Neither wearing helmets. Is the city collecting public comments? Reporting issues to Lime doesn't have any impact at all.
Myself and many of my neighbors here will gladly welcome their exit, unless they decide to enforce their rules and not have their vehicles appear as trash discarded around the city. I regularly see significantly more teenage riders than adults both in my neighborhood and around shoreline, and I've only ever seen about 5 riders wearing helmets. Additionally, the vehicles are always strewn about in the most inconvenient places, blocking sidewalks, park entrances, in the street, and even thrown into my own and other people's driveways. Never removed by the company and still happening regularly. I would be thoroughly disappointed in our city government to see them renew their contract without the company being held to higher standards, instead of being allowed to litter in and disgrace our city for their profit.
Richmond Beach Road and the 20th entrance to Saltwater Park are simply not suited for the Wild West Lime vehicle onslaught.
Please get rid of these. Not only are they a visual blight, they are a physical one too. Frequently parked blocking sidewalks, bike lanes, access ramps, etc. I've seen blocks of 4+ parked horizontally so they are maximally problematic.
Mr Google tells me that Lime Bikes pay cities for allowing them into that service area. Maybe that's why we have them in the first place when every gov't doc says that Shoreline area homes have at LEAST two cars.
Last week I saw THREE elementary school kids clinging to each other driving on Aurora in front of the YMCA at 4 in the afternoon. They were in the north bound lane and struggling to stay on. What adult used their debit card for this? It's child endangerment straight up. This is hardly the first time I've seen dangerous situation and foolish kids on Lime Bikes. They are all too young for a debt card. We have a rash of irresponsible adults who are going to end up hurting kids.
These scooters have taken control of North City. Teens and adults riding recklessly on streets and sidewalks (our ADA curb cut-out ramps are being torn up!). Strongly encourage helmets all you want, give a discount, but it's not happening. It never will. The scooters and gliders clutter the sidewalks, streets, parking lots, intersections, driveways, doorways...if there is space, they occupy it. It is impossible to press the walk button at the intersection of NE 180th and 15th Ave NE, if you are using a mobility assisted mode of transportation, because they surround it. This very intersection where a woman was killed in a crosswalk. As someone who has low vision and dependent on being a pedestrian, these scooters and bikes put me at high risk of a collision. I don't see them coming and they do NOT yield. I am constantly trying to maneuver around them. The City Council meets this Monday, August 17th and they do take public comment. Please speak up and let the City know this pilot program needs to die.
Where's the photo showing the scooter clutter all over the City?! This lineup is not the reality of what we are having to contend with.
I just started using them 2 days ago and love it. As far as them blocking, you have take a picture that it is parked correctly and safely. However dedicated corrals would be ideal. I am not sure how Lime is responsible for people’s bad behavior. It provides a great service. As far as the under 18 riders… When do the parents actually parent I don’t think that’s Lime’s job. If you decide to not wear a helmet, let Darwin have thought on that.
I am one Shoreline neighbor that enjoys them.
I'm a second Shoreline neighbor who finds real value in them.
Opportunities to improve safety and reduce impact on pedestrian flow need to be considered now that the pilot is wrapping up, but I can say it's helped in three distinct instances for me. Once, my teenage daughter couldn't drive home after a MD visit due to faintness and I was able to get from lightrail to Aurora Village promptly to help her. She also had a flat tire I was able to quickly get to her and assist. Personally, I've been able to get to doctor's visits without causing transportation disruptions in our family (we have 2 cars and 4 drivers). I'd love to see them continue but have better enforcement of age restrictions, corrals and general safety improvements.
I often wonder if the benefits of the Lime scooters and bikes are worthwhile. They litter the sidewalks and streets looking mostly unused. In the Ballinger neighborhood where I live, I see young kids aged six to ten riding them haphazardly in and out of traffic with no helmets right on Ballinger Way (State Highway 104). Often I see three little kids on one lime glider. I have seen the kids popping out of driveways and nearly being struck by cars. In my opinion but it's only a matter of time before one of these children are injured or killed. I hope the City of Shoreline discontinues this pilot program and bans Lime from the city. They are not allowed in Lake Forest Park and other municipalities for good reason.
They are great for getting to the light rail. Can’t depend on the bus schedule. Keep them in Shoreline
I'm a fan. I don't think the problem is the lime bikes it's the infrastructure around them that are causing a significant problem. They're great for getting to the train and that sort of thing.
An example of the sort of pathway that would help is in Elliott Bay from the sculpture Park all the way to magnolia. It incorporates walking and bikes and scooters is far less expensive than sidewalks which we also don't have....
So, there is age verification to buy tobacco & alcohol, why not Lime Bikes? How are the merchants responsible for irresponsible abuse of smoke & drink? Exactly.
Lime makes my commute life easier, please continue the program. Tyvm!
Lime scooters are extremely helpful, I mostly use them for my work commute. I think there should be an age restriction though since most of the complaints are about kids riding recklessly.
They are pretty helpful though if you're responsible & not reckless.
