Other people's roundabouts

Sunday, August 23, 2026

Lake Stevens WA has an elaborate roundabout system that has not worked out well for them. They are in the process of revision and reconfiguration to make it simpler and reduce collisions.

Our roundabouts in Shoreline and soon in Lake Forest Park are uncomplicated, compared to this one.

No actual construction is planned; instead they will be painting new lane lines.
  1. One of the circulating lanes has been removed between the westbound Seventh Place Northeast and eastbound SR 204 approaches
  2. One southbound SR 9 lane has been removed entering and exiting the roundabout
  3. One westbound Seventh Place Northeast lane approaching the roundabout has been eliminated
  4. Other minor modifications to the striping on eastbound SR 204 lanes approaching the roundabout
They expect that these changes will create easier decisions for drivers and reduce the number of places where vehicles potentially could collide entering and within the roundabout.

i hope the driving schools are teaching how to navigate roundabouts and that it will soon be something tested when getting a driver's license.

I wonder how long it would take Odysseus to navigate this?
