Metro service changes makes life difficult for commuters along Bothell Way

Metro Bus Route 372 Change
Route 372 started in Bothell, had stops in Kenmore and Lake Forest Park and continued through Lake City all the way to the University District (and the main campus of the University of Washington). So one ride to school if you attended the UW.
Route 372 has been cancelled.
Now, a new Route 72 will serve the Seattle part of the old route and Route 522 will serve the Kenmore / LFP part of the line.
Both routes will detour at 145th to terminate at the Shoreline South transit station, where bus riders are expected to transfer to light rail to continue their journey south or light rail to bus, headed north.
So now every ride to school will be in two parts - first the bus, then the light rail heading south and reverse order heading north.
If you simply want to travel from Lake Forest Park to Lake City, or vice versa, you will have to transfer at 145th and wait for another bus.
The Kenmore City Council protested, as did the Lake Forest Park City Council. Countless bus riders protested directly to Metro.
"Kenmore City Council is opposed to this change and has sent a joint community letter comprised of elected officials, neighboring cities, and community groups to the Metro General Manager communicating opposition to this change.

The service changes went into effect on August 29, 2026.

Goodbye 372. We loved you dearly. Perfect way to get to the UW. Who thinks the new route is better? Not this rider.
Under the new routing, you cannot transfer at NE 145th as the bus lines do not intersect. You have to go down NE 145th to 20th NE, cross the street and take the other bus. Metro Trip Planner has you crossing NE 145th at 27th NE where there is no light and no crosswalk
If busses could run on time this would work although it is inconvenient. If a bus is delayed or missing everyone trying to change/transfer is screwed. I don't know how Metro makes their decisions, but as a long-time bus rider and now also frequent user of light rail, I think it is past time for someone outside of Metro to take a long hard look at everything Metro is doing. They have been left to run their own show for so long, I believe it's time for fresh eyes to take a look at everything from top to bottom.
