Almost there but homes still without power

9-1-15 8:45am power outage map

Crews are down to the last households in the area without power and expect to have those online today.

My sympathies to those people. My block, along with many individual blocks in Lake Forest Park, used to be the last to go online after storms caused widespread outages. There is nothing quite as depressing as sitting in the dark and cold, with no hot water or ability to cook, while everyone around you is going on about their normal business.

Invest in a generator and an interlock switch with inlet. For less than $1600 dollars, you can have 7-8,000 watts of backup power that hooks into your house that will work even when the power is out. There really is no excuse for not being prepared for events like this, especially in a city well known by the nickname "Lake Forest Dark." You can get a new, simple 2,000 watt hand portable generator for the price of a 1080p 40 inch TV from your local big box store. I hope folks learn from this and attend the upcoming Preparedness Fair that the city will host September 26th.
