Monday, January 12, 2015

Construction is due to start January 20, 2015 on the 195th Separated Trail project between 1st Ave NE and 5th Ave NE.

Shoreline is taking another step forward in the project to provide pedestrian and bicycle connections between the Interurban Trail in Shoreline and the Burke Gilman Trail in Lake Forest Park.

This should be a great asset to the city. I made the time to walk about the community last summer, and I walked this stretch as it is pre-construction. While lightly traveled by motor vehicle, you're still walking in a city street. This will be a nice improvement, and I hope that it's just the first step in other improvements in that area, particularly that a light rail station is to be opened at 5th NE and NE 185th in about 8 years. The shortest - and least costly - compliment to this segment is connecting the existing sidewalk that goes on the east side of 1st NE, ending at about 193rd (goes by the Shoreline Pool), then starting up again at 195th. This, one might say, is the missing link: 2 blocks! The other obvious, but more expensive, segment, is to put in sidewalks from 185th northward on 5th NE.
