Obituary: Dick Sacksteder, former principal of Hillwood Elementary, co-founder of Skandia Folkdance

Richard "Dick" Sacksteder, former principal of Hillwood Elementary in Shoreline and longtime director of Instructional Materials, passed away recently at age 92.

Dick joined Shoreline Schools in 1953 as a sixth grade teacher and became principal of Hillwood in 1958, serving in that position through 1964. He then became director of Instructional Materials for 18 years until his retirement in 1982.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara, daughters Randi Olson (Neal), Liv Greene, Colette Sacksteder (Michael), and Annette Sacksteder (Sanoe), his son Lane Sacksteder and many grandchildren.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held Sunday, May 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave. in Edmonds. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Skandia Folkdance Society, Seattle Classical Guitar Society, or any foundation that encourages and facilitates learning and travel, especially for children.
