Albert D. Roselinni, 15th Governor of the State of Washington, died today, October 10, 2011, at the age of 101. HistoryLink.com has his biography.

From King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson:

“Governor Rosellini leaves behind a remarkable legacy of accomplishments for Washington State. As the husband of a long-time community college employee, I particularly appreciate his championing of higher education and our community college system.
“One of the last times I saw him was at a 2011 St. Patrick’s Day event celebrating the working men and women of Washington State. He had a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face, and a keen interest in the local political scene.
“I will miss him.”

From King County Executive Dow Constantine:

It has been an honor to get to know Governor Rosellini over the last couple of decades. He swore me into office when I was first elected to the Washington State Senate, and he has provided humor and wise council through the years.
His impact on Washington during a transformative period in our history cannot be underestimated. He was elected governor in 1956, helped the region step onto the world stage through the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair, and drove construction of much of our major infrastructure. These were formative years for me, and I will always remember the Governor fondly. Our responsibility is to preserve and renew his generation’s legacy.
He was a good Governor, and a good guy, and he will be missed.

Flags at half-staff:

It is with deep sadness that Governor Chris Gregoire directs flags at all Washington State agency facilities to half-staff in memory of former Governor Albert D. Roselinni who passed away earlier today at the age of 101.

Flags should remain at half-staff until further notice. Other government entities, citizens and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition.
