David Rose reports on a Shoreline woman who survived an gun attack from her mentally ill husband because her dog protected her.
Her dog Judah defended her when her when her ex shot her multiple times in Shoreline.
Then, he shot Judah.
Now, the dog's veterinarian says the bullet fragments need to be removed from his head.
Meanwhile, the shooter who was originally charged with Assault 1st Degree is already out of prison after cutting a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to a much lesser charge in exchange for a 20-month sentence.
I spoke with Senior Deputy Prosecutor David Martin who heads up the DV Unit. Hunter was having a full psychotic schizophrenic break which had been developing for weeks before the attack. He had just gotten out of the Navy and had no prior criminal conviction.
It took 9 months to get him competent to stand trial. Defense would have put his mental condition on trial and it was likely they might have won so they opted for the confirmed firearm conviction instead.
As part of the conditions of his conviction, he must continue to get treatment for his mental health.
