Since the adoption of Ordinance No. 1152 earlier this year, there have been issues related to new definitions in the updated tree regulations that are not working in practice as the Administration and Council intended.

The draft ordinance includes amendments that are intended to resolve the issues described. At the July 27, 2017 meeting, the City Council voted to schedule a public hearing for August 10.

Since SEPA and GMA notice requirements have been met, the Council could adopt Ord. No. 1157 after holding the public hearing.

Staff recommend removing the table used to define significant trees and using only the book, Trees of Seattle, 2nd edition by Arthur Lee Jacobson. The book, published in 2006, appears to be out of print.
