13 North King County residents apply to fill future vacancy on County Council

Thirteen North King County residents have applied to fill the vacancy that will occur on the Metropolitan King County Council when state Attorney General-elect Bob Ferguson is sworn into office on January 16, 2013.
The applications received by yesterday’s deadline are listed in alphabetical order, with cities of residence and occupations as described in the applicant materials:
- David Baker (Kenmore) - Mayor, City of Kenmore
- Dennis Behrend (Kenmore) - Bond agent, Lacey OMalley Agency; English teacher, Mercer Education Group, Inc.
- Tiffany Bond (Woodinville) - former Parks and Recreation Commissioner, City of Woodinville; Principal, BrandBond
- Rod Dembowski (Seattle) - Attorney, Foster Pepper PLLC
- Chris Eggen (Shoreline) - Councilmember, City of Shoreline; Analyst, Applied Physics Laboratory
- Ken Goodwin (Woodinville) - Commissioner, Woodinville Water District; member, King County Investment Pool Advisory Committee
- Will Hall (Shoreline) - Councilmember, City of Shoreline; Senior Legislative Analyst, Snohomish County Council
- Bob Ransom (Shoreline) - Commissioner, Ronald Wastewater District; former Councilmember, City of Shoreline
- Cindy Ryu (Shoreline) - State Representative, 32nd District
- Keith Scully (Shoreline) - Planning Commissioner, City of Shoreline; Attorney, Newman Du Wors
- Sarajane Siegfriedt (Seattle) – Member, King County Board of Equalization; former candidate for State Representative, 46th District
- Chuck Sloane (Seattle) - Deputy Ombudsman, King County Office of Citizen Complaints – Ombudsman; Board Chair, Municipal League of King County
- Naomi Wilson (Seattle) - Grants Specialist, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
King County Executive Dow Constantine this week will name members of an advisory committee, representative of Council District 1, to evaluate the applicants for their qualifications, their knowledge of issues currently relevant to King County, and their knowledge of issues specific to people living in that district.
The advisory committee will forward the names of qualified candidates to the Executive. Under state law, when the position in Council District 1 becomes vacant in January, the Executive will transmit three names to the County Council for consideration. The Council has 60 days to fill the position from the date it becomes vacant.
The appointee will serve in office until certification of the next general election in November 2013.

But, with this list it becomes very obvious who is most qualified, though you neglected to put in her backround, as you did with others.
Rep Cindy Ryu is by FAR the most qualified, having been elected to office 3 times, served as a Shoreline Councilmember and Mayor (first Korean-American woman Mayor in the U.S. and she is the first Korean-American woman legislator in WA State history). She was also elected as President of the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce. She has been a small business owner for decades in the insurance area and property management.
Also, Cindy's backround shows a remarkable resilience and record of hard work, overcoming a challenging childhood in Korea to her experience as a farm worker in WA State. She holds an MBA and a degree from UW in microbiology.
And Cindy has an undaunted spirit that allows her to achieve much and reach out to everyone else who needs help. She even hosted the R-74 campaign at her business complex and proudly voted for gay marriage (in disagreement with her church.) That shows courage and fortitude and is what we need from our King County Councilmember.
Geez, a bunch of rats climbing the ladder. Can't they get a real job???? Government service is not a career! do your job, leave and let someone else that is QUALIFIED learn how to compromise.

It's good to learn that Cindy so strongly supported I-74. Finally, someone who understands the separation of church and state and the idea that personal beliefs are, well, personal and not the law. How great that she will stand up for basic human rights for everyone! She most certainly has my best wishes.
I have worked with Cindy Ryu and testify to her dedication, her deep sense of responsibility, her ability to listen and then to act immediately and effectively to achieve results. She has the best follow-up I've ever seen. Regardless of opposition, Cindy stands up for what she believes is right. I witnessed her risking votes in her campaign for the State legislature to stand up in Lake Forest Park for the No on Prop 1 campaign. She won in Lake Forest Park and so did that campaign by a huge margin. We all know she stood up for the Gay Marriage Act. For those who don't realize it Cindy also has a sound business background and is the best manager I have ever seen in action. There is no candidate more competent, principled or effective. Definitely a top candidate for King County Council.
