Nordstrom's last day at Northgate

Sunday, August 11, 2019

Northgate is going to be rebuilt and will no longer be a shopping mall.

Instead it will be home to the National Hockey League (NHL) Seattle team's training rinks.

The rest of the site will be filled with apartments, with some retail and business.

Friday was the last day that Nordstrom was open for business at the mall.

The Northgate Sound Transit station construction is well underway at the southwest corner of the site.

Saturday, The Seattle Times published an article about the last day of sales at Nordstrom on Friday, featuring Shoreline resident Cheryl Shdo.

Cheryl said that although they got her surname and city wrong, the rest of the article was correct.

She has been going to the mall several times a week since 1953 (the mall opened in 1950) and knew the sales staff by name.

I had to go the last day and say goodby to the employees. They are all so kind. Nordstrom gave each of them opportunities to relocate to other stores or get severance. I know where to find my favorite employees!
