State Rep. Jessyn Farrell wins place on House Democratic leadership team

Saturday, November 19, 2016

State Rep. Jessyn Farrell will become Deputy Majority Whip on the House Democratic leadership team in the 2017 legislature.

That will make Farrell the sixth ranking member of the House Democratic leadership team led by Speaker Frank Chopp.

The Whip and Deputy Whip are assistants to the majority or minority leader. The duties of the whip include counting votes, checking attendance, and maintaining caucus discipline on partisan issues and procedural questions.

The political party with the most elected members in House or Senate is the Majority, and the other party is the Minority.

Farrell represents the 46th Legislative District, including Lake Forest Park, Kenmore and northeast Seattle.

State House Democrats selected their leaders at their first post-election meeting Friday afternoon.

Speaker of the House (designate*): Rep. Frank Chopp (D-Seattle)
Majority Leader: Rep. Pat Sullivan (D-Covington)
Majority Caucus Chair: Rep. Eric Pettigrew (D-Seattle)
Majority Floor Leader: Rep. Gael Tarleton (D-Ballard)
Majority Whip: Rep. Marcus Riccelli (D-Spokane)
Deputy Majority Whip: Rep. Jessyn Farrell (D-Seattle)
