How can I help you? Workshop for those on the front lines

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

NUHSA (North Urban Human Services Alliance) presents "How Can I Help You?" - a FREE Skills and Resources Training for People on the Front Lines

We all want to be helpful, but when we don't have the skills or resources, being asked to help by someone in immediate need can be daunting.

This FREE training will start with a discussion led by speakers from Congregations for the Homeless about how to feel safe, remain calm, be present, set boundaries, and work to determine a person's need when approached.

A panel discussion will follow, with speakers from Hopelink, Center for Human Services, and the Crisis Clinic, to discuss local resources and open up the conversation to questions from the audience.

Attendees will leave with a new sense of knowledge and empowerment to make a difference in our community.

Monday, September 19, 4:30 to 6:30 pm, Northshore Fire Department, 7220 NE 181st St, Kenmore 98028.

This workshop is for anyone who wants / needs to know how to assist those facing hunger, homelessness, and more, and/or whose job puts them on the front lines.

What do we mean by "people on the front lines"? Anyone whose job or life puts them in a position where they may be approached by people in need, but who may not have the resources, skills, information or training to handle the situation with confidence.

This might be someone working at a deli counter, who is asked for food. A church secretary, who is approached by a family needing shelter. Or even someone working at a human services organization, who is an expert on his or her own agency, but who could use more information on what others in the region have to offer.
