WeatherWatcher: August heat wave, with another to follow

Saturday, August 20, 2016

Our heat wave is about to come to an end. We had an impressively high "low" temperature of 68.7°F Friday morning, second only to July 2009.

To compare, July 29, 2009 recorded a high temperature of 103.4°F at my station. The low temperature that day was 70.2°F, making the daily average temperature at a blistering 85.6°F.

August 19, 2016 recorded a high temperature of 91.3°F, a low temperature as mentioned earlier at 68.7°F, with a total average at 77.3°F. August 19th was the second hottest day I've recorded in Shoreline since September 2008.

Below is August 2016's high and low temperature graph. Compared to average, Friday saw a high of 91.3°F, Saturday saw a high of 90.3°F, which was slightly cooler than I was forecasting, thankfully.

Forecasts are now calling for a much cooler day Sunday, giving us a much needed break from the heat. Monday and Tuesday the cool air should last with morning clouds in places and highs only reaching the mid-70's. Wednesday - Friday right now has signs that a second heat wave will arrive, with high temperatures returning to the mid-80's to near 90°F once more.
