Adoption search news update

By Pam Queen, WARM

EXTENDED family members can search for the biological family of a deceased adoptee or birth parent if the adoptee was born and/or adopted in Washington State.

The family member of a deceased adoptee or birth parent may be a sibling, aunt, uncle, or grand-parent. These types of searches would be via a court order process through WARM (Washington Adoption Reunion Movement).

Other news is for REUNITED adoptees or birth parents. If the adoption was finalized in King County and you know all the names of the pertinent parties to the adoption, a copy of the King County sealed file can be requested PROVIDING the documents can be picked up at the King County Clerk’s office when you are informed they are signed and ready. Otherwise, King County will only mail the Decree of Adoption and not the entire file. The release of the file and/or decree is predicated on the judge signing the court order.

The above information for EXTENDED family members or REUNITED adoptees and birth parents is only a short description of the entire process.

For more information on either of these processes, please contact WARM – Washington Adoption Reunion Movement 206-767-9510 or at warm@warmsearch.org.
