Shorewood to retire George John’s soccer jersey at Thursday basketball game

Shorewood High School will retire George John's Shorewood soccer jersey Thursday, December 15, 2011 at halftime of the Shorewood boys' home basketball dame against Oak Harbor at 7:15 pm.

George John is an American Major League Soccer player who currently plays for FC Dallas.

John was born and raised in Shoreline, where he attended and played soccer at Shorewood. John played college soccer at the University of Washington, leading the Huskies to back-to-back trips to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2006 and 2007. 

Among other honors, he was a three-time NSCAA all-Far West Region selection, a two-time first-team all-Pac-10 selection, an all-Pac-10 second-team honoree in 2006 and a two-time first-team NSCAA scholar all-American.

John was drafted in the first round by FC Dallas (14th overall) in the 2009 MLS Super Draft. He made his professional debut in April 2009, in a game against the New England Revolution.
